ordered closed by the provincial health ministry more than a year ago have been given a new lease on life Health Minister Dennis Timbrell said Tuesday He said the four Hospital in Toronto and hospitals in Clinton Durham and Chesley will remain open However the province will go ahead with appealing a court decision in regard to the hospitals Timbrell said The four took their cases to court to block closure orders issued by predecessor Frank Miller They won but the decision is being appealed by the province Timbrell told the legislature the government plans to continue the appeal to settle the question of whether the government has the right to close hospitals The reversal in the case of the four hospitals came with the release of a bed-distribution study for Metropolitan Toronto conducted by the Ontario Council of Health The council said Grace Hospital operated by the Salvation Army should be converted to a chronic- care facility from an active-treatment centre Timbrell said the Salvation Army has agreed to the recommendation on condition that a new hospital be built in the borough of Scarborough Construction is to begin next year he said Allen who conducted the study of
