Street was convicted of taking a motor vehicle without the consent and was given a suspended sentence and placed on probation for one year William Brown 56 of Montreal Street was convicted of driving with more than the maximum legal concentration of alcohol in his system He was fined $300 and prohibited for one year from driving in Canada James Doucette 33 of Russell Street was convicted of assault and violating a condition of his ball He was sentenced to 30 days in jaiL Frank Sondy 36 of Patrick Street was convicted of driving with more than the maximum legal concentration of alcohol In his system He was fined $750 and prohibited for one year from driving in Canada Paul Burke 34 of Montreal Street was convicted of having possession of a narcotic for the purpose of trafficking and was sentenced to four months in jaiL George Smith 22 of Portsmouth Avenue was convicted of driving with more than the legal concentration of alcohol In his system He was fined $500 and prohibited for six months from driving in Canada Thomas Cawker 21 of Arden was convicted in Sharbot Lake of having possession of property obtained by crime four break-ins and a theft He was sentenced to four months in prohibited for six months and assessed a $67 victim fine-surcharge Mr was accelerating rapidly and fish-tailing on slippery pavement on Ontario Street in front of the Department Store at 2:10 am just before police stopped him His lawyer Bruce Nelson told the court that his client's gas pedal locked causing the cat's erratic manoeuvring Anthony Babcock 29 of Weller Avenue pleaded guilty to violating a condition of his bail that prohibited him from entering the home he shared with his spouse while a charge that he assaulted her was pending before the courts He was fined $250 and assessed a $37 victim fine-surcharge Court was told that Mr Babcock inadvisedly agreed to the condition at his bail hearing even though his spouse opposed the laying of the assault charge and the couple had no intention of living apart His ball was subsequently amended to remove the condition after application was made to the court and Mr Babcock was eventually fined $150 for the assault Thomas Moore 33 of RR 1 Battersea pleaded guilty to Impaired driving and was sentenced to 21 days in jaiL placed on probation for six months and prohibited for two years from driving in Canada Mr Moore has a previous 1987 conviction for driving with more than the legal concentration of alcohol in his system On this occasion he was stopped by police on Portsmouth Avenue at 1:35 am because of his erratic driving Leslie Garrison 35 of Harrowsmith pleaded guilty to driving while impaired in Portland Township He was fined $800 placed on probation for six months prohibited for 15 months from driving -in Canada and assessed a $120 victim fine-surcharge Mr Garrison was driving home from a house when he lost control of his vehicle struck a parked pick-up triick and rolled Court was told that his vehicle received $5000 damage which his insurance will not cover and that he overindulged that night because it was the second anniversary of his father's death Thomas Lake 25 whose address is unknown pleaded guilty to trafficking hashish by selling two grams of the narcotic for $20 to an undercover police officer at the Weller Avenue Plaza He also pleaded guilty to having possession of a prohibited weapon a butterfly knife which he claimed he did not know was illegal when he bought It that day He was sentenced to 60 days in Jail fined $200 and assessed $65 in victim fine- surcharges Kenneth Bush 18 of Rose-mount Terrace was convicted of assaulting another man leaving In The Courts Earnest Keeping 33 of Bath Road pleaded guilty to impaired driving was fined $750 placed on probation for six months prohibited for 12 months from driving in Canada and assessed a $112 victim fine-surcharge Mr Keeping was stopped by police after his vehicle was clocked on Highway 33 doing 97 km-h in a 60 km-h zone Elizabeth Andrews 26 of RR 3 Napanee pleaded guilty to stealing two bottles of make-up valued at $23 from a local drugstore and was fined $100 and assessed a $15 victim fine-surcharge Peter Curran 34 of no fixed address pleaded guilty to fraudulently obtaining lodging at the Rest-Inn 686 Princess SL and was sentenced to 12 days in jail placed on probation for one year ordered to participate in treatment for his alcohol abpse problem and to make restitution of $18689 to the motel Mr Curran paid for his first stay at the motel but failed to check out the next day and did not respond to Inquiries from the front desk although he spent six hours making long-distance telephone calls to Hamilton After the police were summoned Mr Curran promised to make good his debt the following morning when the banks opened However when the next day arrived he had left without paying his bill Christian Lacroix 30 of Basswood Place pleaded guilty to two separate charges of possession of stolen licence plates impaired driving dangerous driving and violating a condition of his bail that required him to report to police regularly He also pleaded guilty to violating a condition of the probation he was placed on last August that required him to keep the peace and be of good behavior He was sentenced to nine months in jail given his choice of paying a $750 fine or serving an additional 33 days in jail and prohibited for periods of one year and two years from driving in Canada He was also assessed a $112 victim fine-surcharge Mr Lacroix's lawyer Fergus O'Connor told the court that most of his client's three-page record of property offences involves the theft of licence plates He also said that Mr Lacroix is of low intelligence and from a significant mental illness" that causes him to hear voices However the impaired and dangerous driving charges are a new wrinkle The impaired driving charge was laid after police found a car without plates in a ditch near the Austrian Club and Mr Lacroix Intoxicated and hiding behind the Austrian Cub The dangerous driving charge arose on another occasion after Mr Lacroix was reported using his car to chase a nine-year-old boy on a bicycle
