uncertain North commercial agent and Thompson district passenger agent of the Wabash lines returned Saturday from over the line and report traffic as being at high tide The company has suffered but little by delays washouts or strikes the last year and is now in shape to handle all the traffic offered The reorganization committee of the Norfolk Southern Railway is getting matters to moving along much more smoothly This road was once owned by the Vanderbilts and was long known on the stock market as a South The system has' 600 miles of track traversing eastern North Carolina Railroads which are members of the Western Passenger Association have de cided to postpone definite action regard ing reduced rates for conventions and fairs during 1910 This matter lias been a bone of contention among the passenger officials or those lines for some time past but now It is believed it is removed for the coming twelve months or the first time in manv vears the Pennsylvania Railroad last week streets oundations for this structure had pro gressed as far as the ground height but were stopped by the snow Additional work on the walls can not be begun until the bad weather has discontinued Th contractors on this building are required to nave March Inclement weather of the last week has caused a general change in the plans of contractors throughout the city and In several cases has stopped progress en tirely There were only about two days during the week when exterior work could be carried on and after the downpour of snow and sleet this was stopped and workmen were sent to basements and other interior portions of the structures where 'they would he protected from the snow The contractors are now making preparations to protect the stone setters from the cold and if there is no more snow fall some of the exterior work prob ably will be continued in spite of the cold weather Several of the structures now under course of erection have been brought to such a condition that the bad weather had little effect on the progress In all of the structures where stone setting and bricklaying is being done however the work had to be discontinued and can not be begun again until the downfall of rain and snow has ceased oundation work is impossible under the conditions and in several instances contractors are at a standstill and are losing valuable time on account of the weather
