C. 8hrlve la stirring up the anlmala In bli effort to collect pereoiial taiea. Since time Immemorial acna people bava sidestepped paying their personal taxea Imply by not paying, and year after year the. township, city, county and state bava been cheated by tha side-steppers. Mr.

Shrlver proposes to thla year reduce tha delinquency to the loweat poaalble notch and, to that end will force collection with the means at bla hand. Herb Pennington, deputy collector, telle The Journal-flaiette that County Collector Shrlver haa laaued positive orders to get the personal taxes, that It la not a matter' of discretion ao far aa Mr. Shrlver or Mr. Pennington are concerned, but that the order baa come from higher up to get the tax money. Mr.

Pennington alio explains that tboae people who have' an Idea that notice should be aent to them of the amount ot tax they abould pay are laboring under misapprehension. The collector ia not aup-poied to aend out any notice whatever, but tax payera are expected to come to the collector'a office and It 1 up to tb tag payer to know when and where to pay. Another Interesting feature of the tax law la that unpaid personal tax may be placed against the real estate of the tax payer. Mr. Pennington atatea that be baa received positive ordera from County Collector Bhrlver to iaaue tax war ranta agalnat the property ot any per-eon, whose personal tax haa not been paid on or before May 10.

So far aa The Journal-Gaiette knowa thla haa never before been done In Cole county, and tha Indication are that aome people are going to atep lively or have to pay court coita in addition to their tax.
