KCVI at tha George Richardson Memorial Stadium yesterday afternoon Cold weatb or pumbed fingers and made ball handling difficult but considering tha conditions there were not fumbles Errors early In the game helped Ottawa Tech to a touchdown and single in tha first half and In the second half tha Ottawa students raced tar two major scores on clever plays from scrimmage Kingston wss blank ed until tha closing minutes of play when two rouges were scored A large erowd filled the big stand but the Kingston students did not get many chances to cheer with Ottawa holding an advantage moat of the game The boys played rugged football but when tWo boys were banished for lighting in the first half there wss no more trouble Jack Wallis dl KUVJL and John Hughes of Ottawa were the boys sent out of tha game for scrapping A KCVX fumble set the stage for Ottawa to collect an early single and another fumble followed by a yardage penalty put Ottawa In position for Vassla Eno to plunge for a touchdown Pat Benoit converted on a placement kick but the point was not allowed as there were not enough men on the line of scrimmage Tech Get Touches Ottawa added a touchdown in the third period on a series of line plays Don Benoit worked a neat reverie to get within five yards of the Kingston-line and Benoit bucked the remaining distance for the toy which he also converted Joe Aaqulne tossed a nice forward pass to Bennett to start tha move for the third Ottawa try and on the next down Hugh Crawford raced 60 yards around the KCVJ end for a major which Benoit converted George Smart punted two singles In tha closing minutes tor Kingston Ottawa had a big advantage on the wingline over KCVJ working good Interference for plunges and end run Roy Annany got better distance In the kicking exchanges with George Smart the Kingston kicker while the Ot tews ends were much better in opeofield tackling Bennett and Benoit did most of the hall carrying on plays from scrimmage for the winners Chicago Black Hawks appear but once while the other outfits are scheduled for two games apiece At Toronto tonight the Leafs in third place play host to New York Rangers now in the league cellar At Montreal the fifth-place Canadiena meet Beaton Bruins who hold down fourth position In the standings The Bruins were taken 8-2 by the Cansdiens the last tima they met in Montreal the opening game of the present season But of late some rallblrds rate the Bruins as the hottest team in the NHL The Bruins have four wins and one tie in their last five games along with the notation of a scoring 20 goals in the last four starts Canadiens started the season at a league-leading clip but have Men elbowed aside In the standing by the other dubs However mere five points separate Detroit at the top of maybe shade them a bit ready to go for 60 minutes six weeks or 1 six months" Hurricanes probably have light edge In reserve strength he aid but Uplands have six good subs and "we may not need any direction Ottawa school continued their rule of Eastern Ontario football this week with teams from the Ottawa Technical School winning both senior and Junior EO-SSA crowns The Ottawa Tech Juniors beat Begiopolis College in a final at Ottawa Tuesday and the Tech seniors made it a double triumph for the school by trimming KCVI here yesterday afternoon There were more chills than thrills at the senior final with the Ottawa students holding a good margin on the play while the Kingston boys had a bad attack of Jitters making mistakes on their plays and ball handling that proved costly Ottawa was quick to take advantage to gain a six-point lead in the ffrst half and in the second Kingston was crowded In its own end most of the time Lack of experience was the main trouble with Kingston For Ottawa Tech it was Just another in a series of games but for the Kingston boys it was their first league match of the season and only their third game of the year Against Regiopolis in exhibition games KCVI displayed some clever football with fancy passing plays but they never seemed to get organized yesterday except in the closing minutes of play when they completed a neat forward pass for a big gain and collected two singles Ottawa Tech had a well balanced team that worked clever interference and charged hard and fast on defence to break up Kingston plays The Ottawa boys played sound football and showed the results of first class coaching The Ottawa students made the most of the five-yard interference code used in the Eastern Ontario Secondary Schools and favored by many for Canadian senior play With the five yards of open interference there is not the confusion of the two lone shorter CRU rules KCVI had to play the game with two of its best players on the sidelines due to a school rule that a certain standing must be made in examinations The splendid rule prevents any boy sacrificing his studies for sports and often makes an athlete work harder to pass examinations to play school sports Another stern rule was enforced yesterday when two boys were banished from the game early in the first half for fighting The penalty for rowdy play in school sports Is severe and could have been extended to officials of the Ottawa team considering their childish conduct on the sidelines yesterday with loud remarks about officials the opposition and any adverse decisions KINGSTON FKONTENACS STRENGTHENED Herb Macy scored a goal for New York Rangers in a National Hockey League game in New York last Sunday night but tonight he will be trying to score goals for Kingston Frontenacs at the Jock Harty Arena against the power packed Toronto RCAJF seniors Macy was ordered to take military training and he came to Kingston to enlist which gives the Frontenacs one of the prize plums to be picked off the NHI hockey tree this season Macy arrived in Kingston three days ago but until he had signed army documents and a Fron-tenac playing certificate his name was kept a secret Hi-Jacking in hockey is open competition and many senior teams would have liked to land Macy Professional players called in the Army establish residence in cities where they want to play hockey and Join a unit located in or near the hockey community That was how Ottawa Montreal Cornwall and other centres packed powerful army teams and Kingston Frontenacs tp compete In senior company had to adopt the same strange plan 'Macy should help balance the Frontenacs forward lines but Coach Wally Elmer has not decided in which combination he will be placed He will likely work in a trio with Mel Williamson tonight to add a scoring punch The Frontenacs will also have Glen Brydson in uniform tonight and his experience should prove valuable Brydson former Chicago Montreal and Toronto star is located in Kingston as an officer in the Provost Corps Despite many extra pounds he still has a lot of his former speed and his weight should be useful in blocking and bumping I Kingston will need the help of the two NHL players tonight as the Toronto Air Force team is considered one of the main contenders for the Allan Cup this year A few days ago this column got the Air Force hockey teams mixed and reported the names of former pros as members of the Toronto RCAF team when they were members of the Winnipeg Air Force squad While the Toronto RCAF team has not got Stanowskl Langelle Field and several of the proa we wrongly reported the Toronto Flyerk still have terf other former NHL players and four former minor pros including Quilty McCalg McCreedy McCreavy Tuslin and Wycherley Joe Prlmeau popular pivot of Toronto's great Kid Line of Primes Chuck Conacher and Harvey Jackson Is coaching the Toronto RCAF team and according to reports has the Airmen playing in a style that the Toronto Leafs adopted to win the Stanley Cup Some of the top name stars of hockey will be with the Toronto Airmen and there will be times tonight when the teams on the ice win be as good as the average NHL club of today Kingston fans saw the Ottawa RCAF team here last winter before the Flyers went on to the Allan Cup Kingston fans saw the great Cornwall Army team that is one of the Allan Cup favorites this year and to continue the parade of outstanding players and teams the Toronto Flyers will be heri tonight The hockey should be good as shown in any professional league if on we be is he
