THE PANTAGRAPH, MONDAY, FEB. 20, 1984 DEATHS Recreation CENTRAL ILLINOIS Norman A. Debus MINIER (PNS) Norman Albert Debus, 70, of 2309 Broadway, Pekin, formerly of Minier, died at 11:25 a.m. yesterday (Feb. 19, 1984) at Dr.

John Warner Hospital, Clinton. His graveside funeral will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Minier Cemetery, the Rev. Harmon Furr officiating. There will be no visitation.

McReynolds Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born Feb. 8, 1914, at German Ridge, a son of Charles and Flora Poehlein Debus. He married Laura Belle Harris. She died in 1975.

Survivors include a sister, Bernice Fitzgerald, Denver. Two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Minnie M. Underwood EAST PEORIA The funeral of Minnie M.

Underwood, 85, of 523 Edmund who died at 8 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 18, 1984), will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso, the Rev. David Bogner officiating.

Burial will be in Olio Cemetery, Eureka. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 tonight at the memorial home. She was born Jan. 28, 1899, at Burlington, Iowa, a daughter of Edward and Minnie M. Hoig Brown.

She married H.F. Underwood Dec. 22, 1913. He died July 23, 1970. Surviving are four daughters, Helen Hussemann, Gridley; Hazel Miller, Arrowsmith; Katie Metz, Fairbury; and Shirley Wagner, El Paso; four sons, James, Morton; Richard, Casey; Lewis, Manteno; and Walter "Strawberry," East Peoria; 28 grandchildren; 27 greatgrandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, five sisters, a daughter, four sons, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Mrs. Underwood retired from Caterpillar Tractor Co. in 1961 after 17 years. She was a member of Lexington Christian Church and a life member of El Paso Veterans of Foreign Wars auxiliary.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Ida I. Toureene EL PASO (PNS) Ida I. Tour- eene, 65, of 455 N. Pine St.

died at 7:40 p.m. yesterday (Feb. 19, 1984) at Hospital, Bloomington, where she had been a patient four days. She was taken to Froelich Memorial Home, El Paso. Donald D.

Underwood CHENOA (PNS) The funeral of Donald D. Underwood, 50, of 502 McClellan who died Saturday (Feb. 18, 1984), will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Duffy-Pils Memorial Home, the Rev. Grant Sension officiating.

Burial will be in Chenoa Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the memorial home. He was born April 2, 1933, at Towanda, a son of Melvin and Lola Fisher Underwood. He married Ramona Seal July 6, 1958, at Pontiac.

She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Robert, Brent and Bryan, all of Chenoa; a daughter, Kim Hopson, Chenoa; four sisters, Donna McAllister and Jean Shane, both of Pontiac; Christine Rousey, Gilman; and Irene O'Brien, Peoria; and four grandchildren. His parents and two brothers preceded him in death. Mr. Underwood lived 25 years in the Chenoa area.

He was a state Department of Transportation employee for 13 years. He was a Korean War veteran and a member of the Teamsters Union. Memorials may be made to CASA ambulance service, Chenoa. Marie E. Fitzpatrick ODELL (PNS) Marie E.

Fitzpatrick, 84, a resident of Livingston Manor, Pontiac, formerly of Odell, died at 8:40 a.m. yesterday (Feb. 19, 1984) at St. James Hospital, Pontiac. Her funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church, the Rev. Francis J. Ryan officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Watson Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. She was born Jan. 14, 1900, at Francisville, a daughter of James and Margaret Hackett Lee. She married William Fitzpatrick April 30, 1919, at Francisville.

He died Jan. 22, 1983. Survivors include a daughter, Margaret Moroni, Chicago; and a grandson. Mrs. Fitzpatrick was a housewife, a member of St.

Paul Catholic Church and a 50-year member of the Royal Neighbors of America. BLOOMINGTON NORMAL J. Don Wittmis The funeral of J. Don Wittmis, 75, Hillcrest Mobile Court, Greenwood Avenue, Bloomington, who died at 7 a.m. Saturday (Feb.

18, 1984) at Morton F. Plant Hospital, Clearwater, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Metzler Memorial Home. The Rev. James Scholer will officiate.

Burial will be in East Twin Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the memorial home. Mr. Wittmis was born Dec.

25, 1908, at Bloomington, a son of William and Jesse Gordon Wittmis. He married Edna Jones June 16, 1931, at Ottawa. She survives. Other survivors include five daughters, Lillian Carls, Pontiac; Patricia Swearingen, R.R. 3, Bloomington; Emmadean Plank, Stanford; Shirley Knuth, R.R.

7, Alexander Road, Bloomington; and Virginia Stephens, North Glenn, 10 grandchildren; and six greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Mr. Wittmis had retired after 43 years with Northern Illinois Gas Co. Alexander Martishius The private funeral of Alexander Martishius, 68, of 106 Larkspur Catlin, formerly of Bloomington, who died Friday (Feb.

17, 1984), will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westville. Burial will be in the Veterans Administration Cemetery at Danville. There will be no visitation.

Urbas Funeral Home, Westville, is in charge of arrangements. He was born Nov. 20, 1915, at Chicago, a son of John and Mary Gedraitis Martishius. He married Bernice Barshes June 3, 1939, at Chicago. She survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Joyce VonNordheim, Benson, and Barbara Parker, Champaign; a brother, Anthony Martishius, Biloxi, and five grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death. Mr. Martishius was a retired Continental Coffee Chicago, salesman. He was a member of St.

Mary's Catholic Church, Westville; and a former Bloomington Elks Club member. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana. Alta M. Rutledge Alta M. Rutledge, 58, of 87 Mobile-Land Mobile Home Court, Bloomington, died at 7:30 p.m.

Mentzer Loren W. Mentzer, 70, of Gassville, died Friday (Feb. 17, 1984) at his home. He was a retired profess or of biology at Illinois State University and a 22- year resident of Normal. His funeral will be at 1 p.m.

He married Ella E. Schaich Sept. 1, 1940. She died Dec. 31, 1978.

He married Audra I. Ganske June 12, 1980. She survives. Other survivors include a son, Ron B. Mentzer, Seligman, two daughters, Rita K.

Schnell, Des Plaines, and Nola R. Gannaway, 109 Veronica Way, Normal; two brothers, Howard, Canon City, and Ivan, Eugene, six grandchildren; and 10 stepgrandchildren. He was affiliated with Redeemer Lutheran Church in Mountain Home. Memorials may be made to the church's scholarship fund, in care of family members. Walter H.

Ahrens Walter Herman Ahrens, 55, of 811 Hilltop Mobile Home Court, Bloomington, died at 9:17 a.m. yesterday (Feb. 19, 1984) at the home of his sister, Elsie Ann Kletz, 1308 N. Ewing Bloomington, with whom he had been living. He had been under a doctor's care.

His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kibler-Smith Memorial Home, the Rev. Carl H. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the memorial home. He was born June 9, 1928, at Festus, a son of Joseph Charles and Ella M. Panzer Ahrens. He married Lillian Mae Wright Nov.

HEALTH Minier hearing, diabetes tests MINIER (PNS) The Minier Lions Club will sponsor free hearing and diabetes screening tests from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 24 at the Minier Fire House. For many years, the Lions of Illinois Foundation has been involved in a statewide program that concentrates on early detection of possible hearing loss.

In January 1983, the foundation began operating a vehicle called the Lions of Illinois Mobile Hearing Services Unit. The unit travels around the state offering free screenings to people older than 21. The screenings, which last only a few minutes, are part of the organization's public education program. Breast cancer program STREATOR (PNS) St. Mary's Hospital, Streator, will present a community health program at 7:30 p.m.

Feb. 23 in the hospital assembly hall. Dr. William Erkonen, hospital radiologist, will speak on "Mammography, Making Breast Cancer Curable." A question-andanswer period will follow the presentation. Peoria-Tazewell fund drive About 3,500 volunteers of the American Heart Association will be calling on residents of Peoria and Tazewell counties Feb.

Water safety workshop A workshop on water safety will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Feb. 25 in the Center for Visual Arts at Illinois State University. Demonstrations are scheduled at ISU's McCormick Pool.
