By DAVE HAAKE Pontogroph business writer Funk Seeds International has established a President's Council as part of an annual program to recognize employees for exceptional performances or outstanding contributions to the Bloomington-based company. Seventeen of Funk Seeds' 550 employees nationwide were named to the 1984 Presidents Council yesterday by Don McGillivray, company president. Seven are from McLean County.

"We see this as an important program to recognize outstanding employees," McGillivray said. Tribune profit soars The Tribune first-quarter profit soared to $9.97 million from $106 million the previous year on a 126 percent revenue gain and a swing to profitability by its newsprint and forest products group. The company, which publishes the Chicago Tribune and the New York Daily News, said it earned 25 cents a share, an increase from 3 cents a share in the first quarter of 1983.
