Starker PONTIAC Westley Floyd Starker, 69, of Pontiac, a former president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees local and a decorated World War II veteran, died at 8:40 a.m. yesterday (Aug. 29, 1988) his home after an illness.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Episcopal Church, Pontiac, the Rev. James Field and Deacon John D. Wilson officiating. Burial will be in South Side Cemetery, Pontiac.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Raleigh J. Harris Funeral Home, Pontiac. Mr. Starker was born Aug.

9, 1919, in Chicago, a son of George and Faith Stouder Vissering Starker. He married Doreen Mudge on July 27, 1945, in Cardiff, Wales. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Donald, New Castle, and Robert, Pontiac; one daughter, Ann Davenport, Pontiac; three brothers, Gerald, Ohio; Vernon, Indianapolis; and Russell, Streator; one half brother, Harm Y. Vissering, Streator; one half sister, Tassie Vissering, Pontiac; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three stepgrandchildren.

A half brother and a half sister preceded him in death. Mr. Starker, who was educated in rural Livingston County schools, farmed for several years and had been employed at Pontiac Correctional Center. He also had been treasurer of the AFSCME local. An Army veteran of World War II, he participated in the invasions of North Africa, Sicily, Italy and France.

He received the Bronze Star with four stars, the Presidential Unit Citation and the Victory Campaign and American Defense Service medals. After he was wounded at St. Lo, Normandy, France, he was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Pontiac Veterans of Foreign Wars and a former member of the American Legion. Mr.

Starker had been active in Troop 175 Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Pontiac Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge and Grace Episcopal Church. Memorials may be made to his church or to a charity of the donor's choice. Edward Williamson LEXINGTON Edward M. Williamson 83, of 700 E. Walnut Bloomington, formerly of rural Lexington, died at 9:35 p.m.

Sunday (Aug. 28, 1988) at St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Center, Bloomington. His funeral will be at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday at Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington, and at 10 a.m.

at St. Mary's Church, Lexington. The Rev. Thomas Maloney will officiate. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Merna.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home, where the rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Mr. Williamson was born Feb. 20, 1905, at Odell, a son of George and Helen Kilcrin Williamson.

He married Irene Killian on June 4, 1925, at Chenoa. She died April 5, 1954. Survivors include four sons, Patrick, Burbank, Ralph and Mark, both of Lexington; and Edward M. Lake Bloomington, rural Hudson; one daughter, Patricia Watt, 1400 Searle Drive, Normal; 13 grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. One son, one daughter, one brother and one sister preceded him in death.

Mr. Williamson farmed in the Lexington area most of his life until he retired in 1980. He was a member of the McLean County Farm Bureau and St. Mary's Church, Streator. Memorials may be made to his church.

yesterday (Aug. 29, 1988) at Maple Lawn Nursing Home, Eureka, where he had been a resident about 10 months. A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. today at the Maple Lawn Assembly Room, the Rev. Robert Harnish officiating.

His funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Congerville Mennonite Church, the Rev. LeRoy Redding officiating. Burial will be in Imhoff Cemetery, Congerville. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m.

today at Otto-Argo Funeral Home, Eureka, and one hour before the service at the church. He was born May 24, 1895, in Congerville, a son of John W. and Mary Miller Sharp. He married Launa Irion on Sept. 3, 1919, in Congerville.

She survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Oleta Carver, Peoria; four grandchildren; and nine great children. He was preceded in death by one son, one grandson, one brother and one sister. Mr. Sharp was a retired farmer, a 4H leader and member and former director of the Woodford County Farm Bureau.

He was a member of Congerville Mennonite Church and was active in church activities. He was a veteran of World War I. Memorials may be made to the church or Maple Lawn LaVerne Duncan STREATOR La Verne Duncan, 70, of Streator died at 8:05 a.m. yesterday (Aug. 29, 1988) at St.

Francis Medical Center, Peoria. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hagi Funeral Home, Streator, the Rev. Arthur S. Williams Sr.

officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Streator. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. She was born Nov.

12, 1917, in Paris, a daughter of Clarence and Willa Mae Fitzgerald Banks. She married James Duncan on Aug. 15, 1942, in Ottawa. He died Oct. 24, 1959.

Survivors include one son, Dean, Streator; four daughters, Winifred Hightower, 1919 Tracy Drive, Apt. 11, Bloomington; Darlene Duncan, Streator; Dyan Tyler, Peoria; and Dorene Wade, Streator; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. One grandson preceded her in death. She had lived in Streator since 1937. Mrs.

Duncan was last employed at the LaSalle County nuclear power plant. She 1 was a former member of the Second Baptist Church, Streator. Corna Roeder ONARGA Corna Roeder, 82, of Onarga died at 6:10 a.m. yesterday (Aug. 29, 1988) at Watseka Manor Nursing Home, Watseka.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Knapp Funeral Home, Onarga, the Rev. Thomas Logsdon officiating. Burial will be in Lyman Cemetery, Roberts. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m.

He died on Feb. 24, 1983. Surviving are a son, Delford, Onarga; two brothers, Loyal, Springfield, Ohio, and Elmer, Indianapolis; three sisters, Neva Smith, Roberts; Myrtle Kerr, Indianapolis; and Thelma Richardson, Franklin, three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Two brothers, two sisters and a grandson preceded her in death. Mrs.

Burgess, 89, of Paxton died at 1:30 p.m. yesterday (Aug. 29, 1988) at the Ford County Nursing Home, Paxton, where she had been a resident since Dec. 3, 1987. Her funeral will at 2 p.m.

Wednesday at Ford-Baier Funeral Home, Paxton, the Robert Killion and the Rev. Allen Kelley officiating. Burial will be in Glen Cemetery, Paxton. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

She was born Oct. 5, 1898, in Wayne County, a daughter of Redic and Violinder Borders Miley. She married Glenn R. Burgess on Nov. 24, 1915, in Johnsonville.

He survives at the Ford County Nursing Home. Also surviving are two sons, Willie and Leonard, both of Paxton; three daughters, Dorene Hendricks, Paxton; Fern Mason, Kankakee; and Marie Coyne, Colfax; three sisters, Flossie McReynolds, Cisne, and Betha Henson and Wretha McBride, both of Wayne County; 14 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, four sisters, one brother, three grandchildren and three great She had spent her early years in Wayne County, attending schools there. She and her husband moved to Paxton on Jan. 16, 1955.

Mrs. Burgess had been employed by Olson's Laundry, Paxton, for 13 years. She was a member of the Nazarene Church, Paxton. Memorials may be made to the church. Vernal Lewis Corder FARMER CITY The funeral of Vernal Lewis Corder, 75, of Farmer City will be at 1:30 p.m.

Wednesday at Calvert-Belangee-Bruce Funeral Home, Farmer City, with W. Bruce Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Greenleaf Cemetery, Farmer City, with graveside military rites accorded by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars, both of Farmer City. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 tonight at the funeral home. Mr.

Corder died at 11:05 a.m. Sunday (Aug. 28, 1988) at the Veterans Administration Medical Center, Danville. He was born Aug. 22, 1913, in Bible Grove, a son of Elmer Rolla and Arie Adeline Lewis Corder.

He married Norma J. Lane on Dec. 20, 1967, in Farmer City. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Michael Riggs, Farmer City; two daughters, Dolores Jean Shine and Terry Charlene Kidd, both of Farmer City; one brother, Ivan Corder, Jacksonville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. Mr. Corder was a retired truck driver who had served in the Army during World War II. He was a member of Teamsters Union No. 26 in Champaign and Danville; the Fred O'Malley Post 6190 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Farmer City; and a former member of the Joe Williams Post 55 American Legion, Farmer City.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice. Irene Landers LINCOLN Irene Landers, 82, of Lincoln died at 7:30 a.m. yesterday (Aug. 29, 1988) at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital, Lincoln. Her funeral will be at 1:30 p.m.

Thursday at Fricke-CalvertSchrader Funeral Home, Lincoln, with the Rev. Missy Warren officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Beason. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Landers was born March 22, 1906, in Crawford County, a daughter of James Franklin and Florence Myrtle Mills Webster. She married Clarence E. Landers on May 2, 1923, in English, Ind. He died March 13, 1972.

Survivors include a son, James, Kenney; three daughters, Sarah "Suzie" Brown and Alice Thornton, both of Lincoln, and Mary Jones, Middletown; a brother, Edward Webster, West Fork, 25 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. A son, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren preceded her in death. Mrs. Landers and her husband were owners of the former Landers Market in Lincoln. Memorials may be made to Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital Hospice Unit or the Eagles Cancer Fund.

Bloomington-Normal Naomi L. Martin The funeral of Naomi L. Martin, 78, of 1408 S. Madison Normal, formerly of 215 Orleans Drive, Bloomington, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Loving Missionary Baptist Church, Bloomington.

The Rev. James Hines will officiate. Burial will be in Park Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the church.

Mrs. Martin Kibler-Smith Memorial Home handled arrangements. Mrs. Martin died at 12:50 p.m. Sunday (Aug.

28, 1988) at Brokaw Hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was born July 27, 1910, in Bloomington, a daughter of Jessie and Roxie Prudence Stanton. She married Herschell M. Martin on Dec. 15, 1973, in Indianapolis, Ind.

He died Dec. 11, 1987. Surviving are one daughter, Thelma Johnson, 332 E. Wood Bloomington; one stepsister, Rose Washington, Los Angeles, and 19 grandchildren. Mrs.

Martin was a retired real estate saleswoman and notary public. She was a lifetime member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and a member of the Civic Women's Club, Progressive Women's Club and Fleetwood Garden Club. She was also membership chairman of the McLean County Economic Opportunity Corp. She was a member of Loving Missionary Baptist Church and was a retired president and member of the Mother's Board of the church, and for many years she served as the church clerk. Memorials may be made to the church.

Bernice Aldrich Bernice Imogene "Jean" Aldrich, 61, of Rockford, formerly of Decatur and Bloomington, died at 12:20 p.m. Saturday (Aug. 27, 1988) at her home. She had been ill. A graveside service will be at 1 p.m.

Wednesday at Macon County Memorial Park, Harristown. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Dawson Wikoff Funeral Home, 515 W. Wood Decatur.

She was born Oct. 10, 1926, in Decatur, a daughter of Tice and Edith Peterson Sharp. She married John Aldridge Jr. in 1947. He survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Kevin, Cincinnati, and Steven, Flagstaff, one half brother, Tice Decatur; one half sister, Georgeann Judice, Brown Deer, two stepbrothers, Charles Morris, Mount Zion, and John Morris, Cerro Gordo; one stepsister, Samyna Whitehurst, Dade City, and three grandchildren. Meier, 85, of 204 W. Lake Bloomington, died at 7 last night (Aug. 29, 1988) at Heritage Manor Nursing Home, Bloomington. He was taken to Kibler-Smith Memorial Home. Eugene Savage Eugene A.

Savage, 75, of 205 E. Willow Normal, died at 5:55 p.m. yesterday (Aug. 29, 1988) at St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Center.

He was taken to Metzler-Froelich Memorial Home. Plane passenger passes out, but OK An 80-year-old woman was revived with oxygen by the Bloomington rescue squad after she passed out on an airplane that landed at the Bloomington-Normal Airport yesterday, reports said. Mabel Perhaes, Fontana, was treated at St. Joseph's Hospital Medical Center and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman. The rescue squad was called at 6:09 last night to the airport after a report was made that a passenger had lost consciousness.

After receiving oxygen, the woman told the rescue squad she had passed out before when on airplanes. The plane had been scheduled to stop at the airport. Ex-resident gets law degree in lowa LEXINGTON Max Harmon, formerly of Lexington, son of Gerald Harmon, 306E Robinhood Lane, Bloomington, and Lawanda Ransdell, Chenoa, recently received a doctor of laws degree with distinction from the University of Iowa Law School. Harmon has accepted an associate position with the law firm of Hawkins, Schnabbel and Lindahl in Los Angeles. He resides at 612 Landfair Los Angeles.

He is a graduate of Lexington High School and received a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy, cum laude, from Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington. RELIGION Pastoral associate Sister Rosalie Noder, Order of the Sisters of St. Francis, has been hired as a pastoral associate at St. Patrick of Merna, R.R. 9 and Towanda-Barnes road.

Her duties will include sharing directly in ministry to the parish, liturgy programs, working with organists, choir, cantors, lectors, eucharistic ministers and altar servers. She also will be responsible for the religious education program of preschool through eighth-grade classes and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. She has a bachelor's degree of elementary education from Creighton University in Omaha, a master's degree in ministry from Seattle University, Washington; and certification pending from the Liturgy Institute of Chicago. Prayer service A prayer and healing service will be held from 5 to 5:45 p.m. Sept.

The story hour will take place from 10 to 11 a.m. Rules of the Road FAIRBURY The Rotary Club of Fairbury will sponsor a "Rules of the Road" review course Sept. 7 at the National Bank of, Fairbury meeting room. The course will take place from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and is designed to help participants pass the state driver's license test.

Slim and trim class Registration is under way for additional fall sessions of the Normal Parks and Recreation Department slim and trim class. The class will meet from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. Monday and Wednesday Sept. 12 through Dec. 16 at Ash Park Recreation Center.

There will be no class the week of Nov. 21. Two days of exercise per week is $25. Registration may be done at the City Hall Annex, 611 S. Linden Normal.

Aerobics An evening aerobics class will be offered Sept. 6 through Dec. 15 by Normal Parks and Recreation Department. The class will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.

1 at Cook Hall at Illinois State University. Membership is open to all concert band musicians. There is no fee or auditions. The group will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. each Thursday.

Physicians' family picnic The McLean County Medical Society Auxiliary will sponsor its annual family picnic Sept. 3 at Davis Lodge, Lake Bloomington. The event is open to all county physicians and their families and will be from 4:30 to 9 p.m. Chicken, beverages and table service will be provided for $3 per person or $9 per family. Participants are asked to bring a dish to share.

Baby sitters will be at the picnic to help with children. Setting it right H.
