NEW CASTLE NEWS. MONDAY, NOVEMBER lf Titans gain NAIA finals after 20-7 victory their outstanding halfback Al Haines of Aliquippa. He is as good as all the press clippings said about him. He failed to go down on a couple of occasions and if he wouldn't have slipped on the muddy lurf he might have been able to break away for TD's. Once he was hit by four Westminster lineman, but managed to get away without going to the ground.

Another time Annarella hit him so hard that he flew in the air about five yards, but still kept his balance and gained extra yardage. The only threat that Edinboro could mount in the first half was stopped al the Westminster Ii4. Edinboro had a fourth down and one yard situation. Sanford called on fullback Jim Anderson Saturday. All season long the Titans' defense lias come up with a terrific job and was ranked seventh in the nation by the NAIA.

Saturday it showed Edinboro why. Mickey Annarella, Darryl West and Ken Fassio were tfie defensive stalwarts. Annarella, who was named the outstanding lineman in the game, is a graduate of Union Township. He had a tremendous game but the second quarter was his best. The star tackle set up the Titans second touchdown when he recovered quarterback Joe Sanford's fumble at the Edinboro 20 yard line and later blocked a punt at the Edinboro 41.

Fassio also had a great second quarter when he picked off two stray passes. His second interception was beautiful as the ball hit off of Tom Boylan's hands and Fassio who had slipped Lo his knees, was able to hold onto the ball after he juggled it momentarily. West came up with two fumble recoveries. His fumble recovery in the third period was a big one as the Fighting Scots had driven to the Titans 11. On first down Sanford dropped the center handoff, he reached down to pick it up, but West bulled his way through to fall on it for the Titans.

Edinboro found out early thai it couldn't go up the middle against the Titans eight man line (five up front and three linebackers plugging the gaps) and it went to the pitchout. On the first play Raines nearly went al! the way except, defensive safety John Thompson was there to knock him out of bounds at the Westminster 40. Edinboro got to the 11 only to have Sanford fumble and West recover for the Titans. Westminster got an insurance TD early in the fourth period as it took possession on the Edinboro 43 after a 27 yard punt. It took only four plays lo get the TD as Bierbach tossed his second touchdown pass of the game.

The pass went to junior split end Milliron, who's also been hampered by injuries. point after. Halfback Joe Veres, who's just rounding into shape after being hurt most of the season, broke the Scots back during the drive with runs of Hand 16 yards. After an exchange of interceptions to start the second period Annarella recovered Sanford's fumble at the 20. in three plays Westminster led 13-0 as Bierbach tossed to Veres for a nine yard touchdown pass. Veres picked up the other 11 yards overland on the first play. Price got off his best punt in the game when the Titans needed it the most. They were at Romaniszyn, but Don Grimm and Rich Hancox were right there to nail him for no gain and take possession.

Up and till then Haines bad carried the pigskin five straight times for 37 yards. The first time Westminster had the ball in the first period it drove to the Edinboro 26, but after two plays was back at the 42. Kicker Roger Price put the Fighting Scots at the four with a fine punt. Edinboro had to kick out and the Titans had great field position at the Edinboro 43 and in eight plays had their first score.
