Butia Douglas Altman, Dan Auk, Ran Ayers. James Hy MARK HOULETTE Scouts of Troop 5091 from the Bucktail Council of Dubois, took part in many of the activities which were available at the Jamboree. There were four scouts from New Castle who went to the Jambo, (as it is called by scouts). They were, Steve Banko, Dan and Dave Kusnierz, and Mark Huulette, of Troop 35. Although these scouts did not win any events the entire troop took great pride in one patrol who came in second on Obstacle Trail 1.

This patrol consisted of Tom Shimchock, Randy Jury, Tom Whitehill, Tim Kephart, Lee Kline. Norman Sunderland and Dave Herman. They held the record time for three days. During the Jamboree there were a number of News Correspondents who worked to inform the world of what was happening at the Jamboree. These scouts gave up some of their own activity time to work as correspondents.

Colonel Harland Sanders sponsored a contest for the correspondents who showed good writing ability. The prizes included ten portable typewriters, ten tape recorders and five Polaroid Cameras. One of the winners was Mark Engle of Troop 5091, who received a typewriter for his efforts. The end of the Jamboree came and it was lime for the closing ceremony, In preparation for the ceremony every scout was given a small candle. At a point during the program all lights were turned out and the scouts lit their candles.

It's hard to believe how beautiful aver 40,000 candles can be when there is no outside light to ruin the effect. The only way that anyone might know what it looked like, is if you have ever seen New York City from the air at night. Although the closing fireworks display by Zambelli Fireworks Mfg. Co. of New Castle, was not as long as the opening fireworks, it was considered one of the largest fireworks displays that the tree world has ever seen.

The backbone of the display, which was held aloft by a boom owned by the Batletto Equipment Company of New Castle, was a gigantic Jamboree Emblem formed by a framework of flares. Even though the Jamboree is over it will never be forgotten by those who lived through it. II was a great ending for a fantastic Jamboree experiences brought back to the classroom for additional research. "Oceanography has long been a neglected area of study in high schools," Hill said. "We tend to take the sea for.

granted. "'Rut our survival may well' depend upon the ocean," Hill warned, citing population estimates predicting 14 billion people by the year 2,050. "The land won't be able tn produce a public educated abuul the ocean. We have to start now in our schools." News photo by Jim Simpson Program will teach mysteries of ocean Bv RUTH YOUNGBLOOD HONOLULU (UPI) Teenagers are plumbing the mysteries of the sea in an unusual program aimed at getting students to "think ocean." Fed up by the traditional lack of marine science courses in high schools, a young educator has launched a "hands on" approach to uceanography to help youngsters think of the ocean as a living environment.

Instead of pouring over dry, dull diagrams and complicated charts, Hawaii's high school students board a genuine research vessel and work side-by-side with scientists. Barry Hill, director of the Marine Operations Program (MOP) at the University of Hawaii, said hundreds of youngsters have participated in the free cruises aboard the vessel Teritu. with shipboard.
