last 8TH STREET BRIDGE OPEN FOR TRAFFIC FRIDAY AFTERNOON Has Been Closed to Vehicular Traffic for Repairs Since Aug 14 Closed since the middle of August for necessary repairs the 8th street bridge wu re-opsced fer vehicular traffic on Friday afternoon The Gunite Cement Co which had the contract for re-cementing the superstructure cf the bridge completed their work several days ago and it had had sufficient time to set since that time City Engineer Waddell stated that owing to the fact that it is impossible at this time to obtain the steel for the rods to be placed between the cement standards on each side of the bridge it will be necessary to use steel cables ln the meantime This means that ln order to afford proper protection for children snow fencing will have to be placed along both sides of the pedestrian side cf the bridge It is hoped that by spring the steel will fee available and the bridge can be finished according to plan The repairs became necessary sev eral months ago when the atone on the south side and underneath the bridge began to fall off into the river and this was followed by the cement coping on the south side and new these have all been renewed and the bridge will net require any further repairs for many years It wu estimated that the cost cf the repairs would be slightly more than 8300 and Engineer WaAlcU stated mi Friday that the completed work will cost very little mors than the estimate somewhere between 8300 and 8500 The up per portion of the repairs including the sides and the new flooring wu all done under the direction of the Board of
