PAGE TEN DENTON JO URN Ah, DENTQN, MARYLAND Friday, April 23, 1948 Personal And Social News Items Mrs. 'Margaret Long and Mrs. Margaret Baynard, of near Williston, entertained at Mrs. Long's a Stanley House Product Demonstration which Mrs. Blanche Dawson, of Federalsburg, demonstrated on Monday, April 19.

Those present were Mrs. Dorothy Fluharty, Mrs. Cora Stevens, Mrs. Linda Baynard, Mrs. Paul Stafford, Mrs.

Joe Dandy, Mrs. Florence Love, Mrs. Laura Maloney, Mrs. Evelyn Schall, Mrs. W.

H. Green, Mrs. Helen Wilson; Mrs. Viola Todd, Mrs. Lillian Willey, Mrs.

Marian Collison, Mrs. Elma Nelvin, Mrs. Ira Horst, Mrs. Hilda Malonqy, Mrs. Mildred Scott, Mrs.

Lucille Maloney, Mrs. Lynnie Nichols, Mrs. Mildred Hubbard, Mrs. James Willoughby, from Denton. Out-of-town guests, from Ridgely, Mrs.

H. C. Robinson, Misses Mary and Fannie Robinson, Mrs. Amelia Gallagher, Mrs. Carrie Roop, and Mrs.

Hattie Roberts, from Greensboro. Beverly Ann Long entertained a few of her school friends Saturday afterriffon from 2 o'clock until 4:30, at her home near Williston, in honor of her eighth birthday. Those present were: Paul Green, Bobby Beck, Robert Schall, Tommie Towers, Philip Reed, J. 'D. Neal, William Johnson, Conrad Scurto, Danny Grouse, Ruth Ann Maloney, Diane Carroll, Janet Neal, Dale Harrison, Mary and Francis Boczon.

After playing several games, they gathered around the table filled with a beautiful birthday cake and candles, candy and ice cream. Many nice gifts were received. They all departed at 4:30, wishing her many more birthdays. Mr. and Mrs.

Wilmer Nagel and daughter, Sue, spent the week-end in Boothwyn, Pa. They were accompanied home by Mrs. Nagel's mother, who had been in Philadelphia for a few days to a specialist. While there she visited her sister-in-law, Mrs. Addie Stewart, of Drexel Hill, Pa.

Mr. and Mrs. Paul Stafford, of Hobbs, spent Tuesday afternoon in Ridgely as guests of her grandmother, Mrs. H. C.

Robinson. Miss Esther Kauffman, of Washington, spent the week-end at her in Denton. Mrs. Joseph Johnson and Mrs. Harry Knotts entertained at.

Mr. and Mrs. Walter L. Hill and children, Jean Carolyn and Walter Leonard, of Baltimore, spent last week-end with Mrs. C.

Kemp, with her little daughters, Robin and Ann Stewart, of New Market, Frederick County, and Mrs. John Lawson, of Flushing, N. are visiting their mother, Mrs. J. Frank Wright.

Mrs. J. Simmons Dawson, of Baltimore, is the guest of her sister, Mrs. R. N.

Kitchens. Mr. C. H. Willis is visiting at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr.

and Mrs. Taylor Brown, at Rising Sun, Md. He has been quite 111 during his visit and is still far from well. Mr. and E.

E. Brumbaugh, of Lansdowne, made a brief visit to Denton last Saturday and called to see several old friends. --DEATHS-- MRS. RUTH LIDEN Mrs. Rutli Amelia Liden, 50, wife of Norman Liden, a farmer at Concord, near Denton, died in Memorial Hospital, Easton, last Monday, after a brief illness.

native of Caroline County, she was the daughter of the Into Mr. and Mrs. Willis Carroll, of Concord. Besides her husband, she is survived hy her son, Norman Lidcn, two sisters, Mrs. Bates Baker 'of Georgetown, and Mrs.

Arthur Carter, of Lincoln, and a brother, Summers Carroll, of Concord. Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the Moore Funeral Homo in Denton and burial was in the family plot in Concord Cemetery. The Rev. C. H.

Atkins, of Mnrydcl. and the Rev. i Kay, of Concord, officiated. MRS. ETHEL L.

BISHOP Funeral services for Mrs. Ethel Louise Bishop, 56 years old, were held at Rawlinps Funeral Homo in Greensboro at 2 p. m. The Rev. Paul Burke, of Dundalk, a former Baptist minister of Greensboro, officiated.

Burial was in Greensboro Cemetery. Mrs. Bishop died Sunday afternoon following a long illness. She is survived by her husband. Nelson Bish op, of Greensboro; a son, Davis N.

Bishop, of Greensboro: a daughter, Mrs. W. Hyland VanSant. of Denton, and a grandchild. She also leaves her father, David L.

Morris, of Greensboro; three brothers, Henry Morris, of Hartly: Clinton B. Morris, of Greensboro, and Thomas I. Morris, of Brooklyn, N. three half-brothers and two half-sisters. Foster, Manager of the Salisbury office, many persons have been losing benefits rightfully due them as retired workers or as survivors of workers who have died, by failing to apply for them. Since no such benefits are ever paid automatically, it is urged that any persons of the classes mentioned, plus any survivors of veterans of World War II who have died within three (3) years after their discharge from service, should make it a point to contact the Social Security office in person or by mail. 4-H CLUBS" RIVER ROAD 4-H CLUB The River Road 4-H Club had a very nice egg hunt Easter Monday at the home of the Fuchs sisters. All the 4-H members were present, and there were three visitors Peggy Layton, Eunice Faulkner and Andrey Zinzer. After the first hunt we counted the eggs that each one found and Barbara Fuchs had the most; second was Jean Downes and next was Eunice Faulkner.

Before the afternoon was over we hid them just for fun. While the eggs were being hidden we played some games in the house. Our leader gave us each a bag of Easter candy. After that we had refreshments of cookies and chocolate milk. We went outside and played soft ball, and other outdoor games until time to go home.

Everyone had an enjoyable time. Barbara Fuchs, The -1-H girls of Caroline County will hold their annual-rally in Concord Church House May 1st, 10:303:00 D.S.T. Girls from the clubs over the entire county are expected to attend. Miss Florence Mason, Home Furnishing Specialist and District Agent, University or Maryland, will attend and in the afternoon give talk and demonstration on Furnishings for Girls' Rooms. She will show wallpapers and fabrics suitable to use.

Other features of the program will be a style show, music, games, exhibits and a flower exchange. Those who have surplus plants should take them to exchange for new varieties. New officers will be elected. There are 19 active clubs in the county, one a newly organized group at Preston. Mrs.

Nelson Covey is the leader, Miss Dotty Hall, assistant, and Mrs. Harry Rieck, 4-H Chairman of the 20th Century Homemakers Club. The other clubs are located at Federalsburg, Smithville, American Corner, Williston, Denton and vicinity, Tuckahoe, Ridgely and vicinity, Furmans Grove, Greensboro, Goldsboro and Henderson. Women of the communities are taking the I responsibility of the clubs and their assistance is appreciated. Charlotte Ann Lister is the county president 1 and will preside.

'TUCKAHOE 4-H CLUB The April meeting of the Tuckahoe 4-H Club was held at the home of Susan Pritchard on Monday, April The first part of the program, was spent in singing from the 4-H song book. Appropriate spring poems were read by several of the members. 1 After the regular business, meeting, Louise Blades and Susan. Pritchard demonstrated the correct table setting for the family meal. The May meeting will be held at the home of Eloise and Kay DeFord.
