Appointed Wm. B. Colston editor of the Statesman, Martinsbnrg, W. Va was yesterday appointed postmaster at that place. Capt.

Colston served with honor in the Stonewall Brigade during the late war, where he took the rank of Captain. He is now one of Martinsburg's influential citizens. Sullivan was arrested last night by officer for being drunk and disorderly. He was fined $5.85, which he failed to pay and was sent to jail for 30 days. John Stanton, arrested by officer Dadieman for drunkenness and disorderly conduct, was fined $2 85, which he paid.

Mr. food's Beardsley who it will be remembered was the eccentric guest of Mr. Cl'fford Wood, of the Howard House last week, has been claimed bv her son, Mr. Paul Beardsley. He returned profuse thanks to the courteous proprietor for bis care of his mother, who he admits is at times exceedingly eccentric.

The wife of Lam Allen, a prominent citizen of Churchill coutty, has been aa invalid for a long time. Occasionally her sufferings were great, lin Buchanan, ranking admiral of the late Confederate States navy and hero of the naval combats between the Merrimac and the United States fleet in Hampton Roade, and also of the fight against Admiral Farragut in Mobile Bay. Commodore Lowndes and Admiral Buchanan took opposite sides in the late war and because of the relations between them Commodore Lowndes was not assigned to the active and responsible duties which has past services merited. In 1862 he was placed upon the retired list. His last foreign service was in China.

Commodore Lowndes married Mtm Sallie Lloyd, of this coun'y, daughter of the late Governor Edward Lloyd, and aunt of Governor Henry Lloyd. She died several ago. Four children survive them Dr. Charles Lowndes, who lives in Talbot countv; Mr. Lloyd Lowndes, Mrs.

John W. Bennett, wife of capt. John W. Ben- uett, formerly of the Ut-ited States navy, and, during the war, of the Confederate States navy, now living near Sykesvi'Ie, and MM. Dr.

J. A Johnson. Hk two grandchildren-Misses Nellie and Hattie Bennett-have resided with him during a portion of ich year since the death of their grandmother.
