B.. liamg on the subject .of, School enroll' ments and trends, j -Eugene Hut chins, board member, also re' , viewed the needs and said "\y think there is no use in trying to remodel, arid ? It." is- better to get •new construction." A. M. Quintard, County Supt. of schools, also spoke from' the 1 fldor. i • ' In general the .proposed bond . issue if approved: would finance construction of a new unit adjacent to the. present Bryant school, would add. a wing to the Lucia .Wallace school; would enable the board to 'acijuire land and build a primary School east of the Northwestern tracks, and provide fund$. to ..purchase; a ;site 'for a new high school arid athletic .field. .;-"•; .•.•.-—•••-.-•.-- v Questioned oh the thinking with regard to talk' ,of. a' new high school and athletic field, Collins said that-if; and when a new school built on the selected site, the., present high school would probably become a aunior high caring for 'grades 7, 8 and 9, and ;the/new school taking care of grades 10, 11, .12. • He added that the present Third Ward school does not adapt itself in design ' or location to make it worthwhile to expand there. The Third Ward, event- ually, would be eliminated BS a school, but not until the-secortd phase of the present tolannirig Is reached, which would be after the accomplishments of the pending bond issue. , This bond issue would be paid off on the basis of payments by taxes over .a 20-year period, Collins urged everyone tb, v^ for that which 'they faVo* iand" against that which they dp not favor." Questioned oil the subject of the, size of classrooms he said the boai'd did hot believe'in building small classrooms because they did .not., think they were good classrooms. Another question concerned the proposal to buy about 25 acres for a future senior high school site. The question was asked why so much ground was necessary. Collins explained that' state laws made it mandatory that_ if an athletic field site' M - desired Jt must be included in the bond proposal, and added that today, in looking ahead, much parking space ! for faculty < and student cars is needed. •• * One member of the audience remarked lhal if we Were looking ahead that far, "maybe we better put in a landing Strip, too." "there was considerable discussion of possible population trends, and the subject of taxation was touched upon briefly. Collins added the final thought that "you're going to pay for it whether you get it or not." Mr and Mrs Dick Post had as their guests from Thursday until Sunday, Mrs Post's mother, Mrs •Lillian White of Manilla and her brother and sister-in-law, Mr and Mrs Maury White of Des Moines.
