New officers Jan Clark, president; (Marianne Nurre, vice president; Barbara DeGeeter, secretary-treasurer; Betty Menke, historian; Jean Rake, photographer; and Margaret Nurre, reporter were installed in office by the old officers. Linda Weber played "Dreaming" while they marched in. , Mrs Weber and Connie Opsal were guests. Gene Nurre has been quiet ill .suffering from virus pneumonia. Mr and Mrs Elmer Schneider are the parents of a son born recently at St. Ann hospital. Mrs Mary Froehle and daughters Janice and Regina and Frances Schiltz spent several days in Kentucky where they visited Mrs Froehle's son Delbert who is leaving this week for overseas duty. Mr and Mrs Richard .Menke and girls and Mr and Mrs John Menke were supper guests of Mr and Mrs Harold Winkel and family at Whittemore Sunday evening. A large crowd was on hand at the Altar society meeting Thursday afternoon. Mrs J. A. Devine won high score, Mrs Maurice Bernhard low, and Mrs F. J. Welp cut prize. Mrs Laurence Bergman entertained 12 ladies at her home Tuesday afternoon at traveling bingo party. Prizes were won by Mrs Alice Barslow, Mrs Geo. Doocy and Mrs J. F. Holinsky. Mr and Mrs Albert McCarthy left this week for Texas where they will spend the winter. Lizzie Nabor is on an extended vacation in Arizona where she is visiting relatives. Sister Mary Germanine, who- underwent surgery, is getting along nicely at Mercy hospital, Ft. Dodge. Mrs Richard Menke and Alice, Mrs Cletus Dorr, Mrs Laurence Bergman and Mrs Geo. Rahe visited with her at the hospital Wednesday. St. Benedict C.D.A. Presents Play The C. D. of A., St. Benedict, held a meeting, Nov. 16, at 8 p.m. with Grand Regent Betty Daley presiding. The court vot«d to wend a donation to the Coundl of Retarded Children of Kossuth County. After the meeting members ol the court put on a play entitled "The Family Rosary." Refreshments were served by the lunch committee with Irene Will as chairlady. Prizes awarded were to Regina Dorr, plate prize; Caroline Kunkel, spoon; Gladys Thill, cup; Mary Lou Meyer, door; and Stella Arndorfer received attendance prize. The next meeting will be a pot luck dinner Dec. 15. IF IT'S NEWS — WE WANT IT Council Minutes COUNCIL MINUTES The City Council met in sprcial session. October 31. 1955. at 10:30' a m. with the Mayor and all Councilmen present. Also present wen- Elead Wegner. Leon Laird. Everett Ualdus. Walter Schildknecht and Albert Bockelman and their Attorney Joe E. Lynch. Sr. and Duane Jensen and his Attorney Leo Cassel. The meeting was called to consider a complaint regarding the construction ot an addition lo a warehouse by Duane Jensen A large doorway has been constructt-d on the west side of said building which was not shown on the building application, and the only means to use- tins doorway would be crossing a vacant lol in Ihe Single Family District. Dubuquc; Lundcll Const. Co. Chrrokpe and Clnrk A Fit/. Const. Co.. Bagley. A resolution wns adopted approving plans, specifications and Conn of contract. A Resolution awarding contract to the Lundell Const.. Co.. who submitted the lowest bid. was adopted. A Resolution was adopted authorizing the Mayor and Clerk to pxecute an agreement for engineering services signed by Collins. Thompson and Willis which calls for services to be performed in connection with thr storm sewer in the east part of the City. A Resolution was also adopted accepting the work and ordering preparation ol plat and schedule of assessments bv the Glover Construction Co lor curb and gutter construction on South Harriet Street. Stipt. of Schools were present regarding the problem of children crossing the streets where school flashers are constructed. After much discussion the Mayor was instructed to employ additional help \r> police said crossings for a (rial period. The City Attorney was instructed to notify the bonding company the status of the blackt,opping project which the engineers state is about G5', completed. Builders permits were granted to Mrs Bessie Walker, Theo. Larson. Wilbur Reinders, P. J. Kohlhaas nncl Craig Smith. A beer permit wns renewed to A. H. Johnson. A resolution was adopted approving a contract and bond of the Lundell Const".' Co. for storm suwcr construction. ' A Resolution was also adopted accepting the work of the Clark & Fitz Consl. Co. for sanitary sewer construction. This was the time set to consider a proposal by John Gisch to purchase city owned land near the sewage treatment plant, no other offers were received the Council took no action.
