yesterday from Alameda Cal Mr Wolfard was 78 years of age and was well known throughout Eastern Washington He had resided for four years at 1707 Boone avenue with his wife who survives him He had been infirm for several years and had retired from active business but it was not until recntly that it was ascertained that he was suffering from disease and that his condition was serious Mr and Mrs Wolfard had been accustomed to spend the winter in California and went to Alameda several months ago He became rapidly worse a few weeks ago and was unable to return to Spokane where his friends and children live Death came yesterday forenoon Besides his wife he leaves four children all grown They are: Oliver Wolfard Mrs Addie Benshaw Lake Wolfard and Vert A Wolfard Mr Wolfard crossed the plains and settled at Silverton Ore in 1853 Previous to that time he had lived at Portsmouth Ohio He was of German blood though born in Alsace France He spent nineteen years in Oregon and was one of the first settlers at Colfax Wash in 1872 He had been prominent in Whitman county for many years and did not leave Colfax until four years ago after he had retired from active life He hath been an Odd believed to be one from his own gun This startling fact developed late yesterday afternoon upon a comparison of the bullets fired in the fight and killing which occurred at grocery store last Monday night Two bullets were found in the body one having entered the breast and the other the head back of the ear It had been supposed that Detective Adams fired the shot entering the body and Detective Lane the one in the head Coroner Hoye and experts assert that the I bullet in controvery was not fired from the Colt gun which Lane carried The mystery in the case is increased by the statements of physicians that Murray could not have fired the shot which entered his own head and ranged down- ward fnto his' neck The brother of the dead man George Murray arrived in the city yesterday from San Francisco and will probably ask that an inquest be held over the remains The brother of the dead man says he had never been in any trouble nor had he a bad record as was told the police by an insane negro Mr Murray says he cannot explain the circumstances under which his brother was shot His aged mother in San Francisco is nearly broken-hearted as a result of his death Her dead son had been married and leaves two children in California He was 42 years of age instead of 31 as reported At one time he was employed in responsible position by a large mercantile house in San Francisco had the handling of big sums of money and faithfully performed Ids work The dead burglar was buried late this afternoon his brother having decided not to insist upon i an inquest The bullet which killed Murray was from his own revolver and entered the back of his head He could not have' fired the shot and Detectives Lane and Adams will not admit that one of them fired it from the gun Neither will they admit that Murray was decoyed out to the place where they were lying in wait They say they had a tip that a robbery was to take place and simply waited for developments Prizefighting Mountain this morning when Mrs Hamlin a woman 50 years of age and deaf was run down and killed by a logging train of the Columbia A Puget Sound railroad Her body waa literally ground to pieces and it was necessary to pick up the remains in a box Mrs Hamlin was crossing the track at the time the accident occurred Being deaf she did not hear the heavy train approaching and before the engineer could bring his train to a full stop the unfortunate woman was knocked uown and her body crushed by the heavy whhels The train was filially stopped and members of the crew went in search of" the body Mrs Hamlin bad just made the purchase of a small store at Maple Valley and was on her' way home when she was killed She had crossed the depot platform and started across the track when hit by the engine She did not live far from the scene of the accident According to reports brought to this city today members of the train crew attempted to warn Mrs Hamlin of the approach of the train and the whistle was blown She did not bear however and was killed before she knew the train was upon her Mrs Hamlin bad lived at Maple Valley for some time -and was very well known Her husband was at Columbia at the
