Griiliniii on tlie compliilnt of Mrs. Bridget Meyers of West Bye, for attempting burglary. They were arraigned in court Monday for examlnutliui, and plueeil in tlie town lockup to await a further liearing.

Oil Tuesday morning a visit lo the lockup showed that two of tlie birds had ilowu. For two or tlnvn years past, incendiary fires and burgluries have bomi of freiiuent occurrence in Bye and within the past few mill Hchlekon-atcnl lug has been indulged in. It was apparently the work of au organized gang, and later developments proved this to be the case. Early in 1891 tlie Crawford house near Bye union ociuelery was burned. Later In tlie same year Miss Cornelia Purdy's barn was burned.

The following spring the carpenter shop of James Weeks fared tlie same fate. Lust September the barn of Richard Cushion was fired. Six weeks later Fergusons barn was burned. In November Richard Cushion's blacksmith ehopwas broken lulo and a number of tools stolen. About this time Mrs.

Meyers house was visited and an attempt made to force an entrance, but Hie burglars were frightened away. Between Christmas and Kew Years Mr. Cushion's chicken-hi hi Re was visited and number of fowls stolen. This is a port ion of the long list of crimes attributed to this gang of miscreants. The latest escapade, which resulted in the capture of part or nil of tlie gang, was on Wednesday night of last week.

On that night Edward Kcliell, of Grace Church street, had a iiuniuer of ehk-kens stolen and Mrs. Meyers house was again visited. THE AIUKKT. On Wednesday night of Inst week Morlarty, Wnrd nnd Murray attempted to break into tlio house of Mrs. Bridget Meyers in West Bye.

Tliev ware frightened away, but Mrs. Meyers recognized Wui-d nnd Morlnrlv. On Friday Want and Morlarty were urreated. Mortal ty was taken to Pint Chester and Ward was Itslgi in tin Bye liH-kup. Here a little stra ogy was u-sxl.

Const able Graham Intel viewed Morlarty in Btii-h a iimniicrnxtohiliigiilHiiitn full uiifesshMi from him. Meanwhile, Wan I wee hhii nnd tlioHiine sfo-ry wen ilniwii from him. He then came lau-k to Bye and went to tlie lockup to see how tlio prisoners were getting along. COXSTA1ILE GUAUAUS STOIIY. To a Pabaguafii reporter Mr. Graham told the following story of the cscuiie Tlio prisoners were In tlie main room around the lire eating their siipiier. Ho wus going to put each uian in a cell and lock them up for the night.

Jusiiee Baruch was then, and remarking that it was pretty cold, advised him (Graham) to lot- the prisoners remain in tlio corridor, near tlie stove, aiul he wouldget a walcliman. Tlie next morning he was informed that Morlarty and Wunl had escaped. Tlie lock on tlie door is a hasp fastened with two bolls with the nuts on the in side. Tlie nuts had been screwed off and tlie door prhsl oon with liin stove poker, widen was bent and twisted in tlio effort. Evidently tlio piisoners hod help from tlie outside or else one of them had a wrench In Ids pocket, for the fastenings could not have Is-en removed otherwise.
