Upchurch Hostess To Xi Beta Omega Chapter The first fall meeting of Xi Beta Omega chapter of Beta Sigma Phi was held Monday night at the home of Mrs. W. H. Upchurch, 822 South Granger. During the business meeting Mrs.

Fred Gates was granted a membership at large as she is moving away. Plans for the winter meetings and activities were discussed, and Mrs. John Utter, program chairman, distributed the new program books and explained the year's theme which is "Drama Around the World." Clifford Davenport was the guest speaker for the evening. He began his talk by noting the trend these days of a return to the legitimate theatre and commending the chapter for observing this trend and studying the theatre this year. His topic for the evening was Hennk Ibsen and his play "The Wild, Duck." Speaking of Ibsen, he said i he might well be considered the father of modern drama because he deepens the thought content of drama, improves technique, wrote great roles, and showed that there was no need for drama to be empty entertainment.

Two of his plays, "A Doll's House" and "Ghosts." were mentioned in the story in meaning of "The Wild Duck." Preceding the ceremony a gift was presented by the chapter to the hostess who was recently married. Mrs. Upchurch and the assistant hostess, Mrs. Trafton Dennis, served coffee and cake following the program. Rev.
