The matter whs referred to the committee on school houses and sites.

Superintendent MeClymonds said that the fence was to have consisted of wire and a pretty hedge', which, he declared, would not detract from tlie appearance of the park. Several of the ty embers of the board stated that the letter received was not in accord with the agreement made with the commissioners. ENLARGED DUTIES. In discussing the fourteen new schools which will come undor the jurisdiction of the Oakland school department, the directors said that some of the rules and regulations will have to be changed in order to give the board power to act in the new district. Superintendent MeClymonds admitted that very few would have to be made in the course of study.

The schools in the recently acquired territory are Brav, Ueulah, Ehnhurst, Fruit-vale Xos. 1, 2 and 2, Highland. Lockwood, Prick. Melrose. Heights and John C.

Fremont High School. The board entered into an agreement to occupy the lower lloor of tlie Pioneer Hall Association in the Xorth Alameda tract, where there -will be two classrooms and two grades in each room. It will include the first, second, third and fourth grades of the grammar schools. The agreement was originally signed by the board of trustees of the Fruit-vale school district. Directors R.

V. Camobell, H. K. Fisher and J. It.

Rellley affixed their signatures to '-the document on November 15 for a period of two years, with a proviso that at the end of that time the contract would cese. Tae board will furnish the school rooms and have them in first-class condition for the little ones to occupy in a short time. It will be a temporary structure for the children until the board sees fit to erect a building in that district. The Pioneer Hall Association bought the property from the Ierbv estate and they intend to erect a two-story building. The upper floor will be occupied as a hall and the lower for the schoolrooms.

LOCATION OF SCHOOL. The building will be located within that portion of the Fruitvale district bounded on the west by the city boundary line on tlie north bv the Southern Paclnc right of way, on the east by Fruitvale avenue and on the south by tho tidal canal. J. W. MeClymonds is rearranging his schedule of visits prcpn.ra.torv for thi Additional work which will confront him after the annexed school district pomes under his supervision, which will be in December.

In referring to the matter, he said- "With the additional school which will tiecome a part of the Oakland city department when the annexation has been ratified will come 114 teachers, many of whom are practically strangers to me. So far as I have been able to determine, these, new schools are in excellent condition and will not need to have any new policies installed. i "We are not troubled over the matter of monev for salaries of the new instructors," for that has already been tak-n care of for the fiscal year by the districts in which the various schools are situated. I already visited some of them, and from the conditions I found there I have no fears for the future." SCHOOL TOWELS. There was quite a little talk about the matter of towels in the local schools with regard to providing individual cloths for the children on the ground that are more sanitary than ihe roller towels.

The question a to whether there should be separate towel 3 for the little ones or continue with the rollers will be determined" by the committee on furniture and supplies. Superintendent MeClymonds also brought up the matter of the cafeteria in t-ic rtoVTnnd TTitrb School, and in a con Helping Hand Mission Wi! Set Forth Good Things.
