He.therinsrton as MEETING OF 1 OF THE COUNCIL ORDINANCES, RESOLUTIONS AND COMMUNICATIONS ARE READ. At a meeting of the City Council last night there were present Council-men Bishop, Boyer, Cadman, Courtney, Cuvellier, Dorman, Fitzgerald, Ruch, Wallace, "Wixson and President Schaffer. BOARD OFJ KQUAXJZATION. The Council met a 3 a City Board of Equalization. As the new assessment rolls were not ready to be submitted for the year the meeting adjourned until next Monday evening.

CHASTE STREET SEWER. F. M. Langly, A. E.

Schrieber, James Adams and William Cravat appeared before the Council to protest against the proposed sewering of Chaste street' between Wood and. Willow. All four protestants were of the opinion that the improvement would entail an unnecessary expense upon property owners, and that connection with the sewer on Eighth or Ninth street could be made cross lots more cheaply than a new sewer could be built, and for that reason thev favored sustaining the Drotest Mrs. Mary C. Wilson, the petitioner for the sewer, called the attention of the Council to the fact that it was against the law to sewer across lots ar.

v.uj 1 and that relief could only be obtained by having the street sewered. The Councilmen were of the same rmininn an ri nnaniiYinudv imtaA tr, amend the protest and ordered the work of building 315 feet of sewer from Chaste street to connect with the Willow street sewer. EMERICK'S CLAIM. A resolution was passed ratifying the recommendation of the Committee of the Whole that Councilmen Schaffer, Boyer and Fitzgerald be appointed a committee of three to eonfer-with the Board of Public Works relative to an amicable settlement of the cluim of W. J.
