INKS MEM LOOKS FOR GOOD TIMES Outlook of the Realty Market Is Promising-Rentable Houses Scarce. Houses Being Built ALAMEDA, May 1. There has not been much activity in the real estate market this week, yet real estate men xpress themselves as being very hopeful as to the outlook. Inquiries are coming in from prospective buyers from various sections of the State and country.

A large number of these are from new residents who have recently come from the East with the intention of locating In this city. Several good bids for choice realty sites come from San Francisco people who are steadily making an ingress here for the purpose of taking advantage of the excellent offerings. Those who are really Interested In securing homes here have the cash ready, and while there few outright payments a substantial payment Is made, insuring the purchase. It is very hard to secure desirable houses for rent at the present time owing to the fact that the choice offerings are immediately snapped up. Once a house is completed either for sale or rent, those on the ground early take advantage affd secure the option, in many cases long before the house has finished.

Rents are nominal. There are many vacant houses In various parts of the city, but they are deemed as undesirable owing to the lack of up-to-date plumbing and other modern improvements. It may be s.Lld with good foundation in fact, however, that there was not more than en desirable empty bouses for rental in Alameda at the present time. In the East End The boom seems to be in the East End. Delancy and Randlett have erected homes In this section, and all havt either been sold or.

rented. This section of the town js being sought for by homeseekers, it being deemed the best section open for a good buy now. New Homes Two new houses are In the process of construction Santa' Clara avenue and Court. jreet. one to, cost $5000 and one $4000.

Delancy and Randlett are building the housftci for sale. E. A. Randlett of tlie firm of Delancy Randlett Bays: "There have been few sales during tlie oaxt week, but we are highly pleased with the outl.ook. We are 'dally in receipt of many Inquiries from prospective buyers, but It takes some time for a homeseeker to make up his mind.

The market is steady and the prices are sound. The East End, of course. Is building up very rapidly. We look forward to a very successful business year and expect that there will be many new residents here before the season is over." The property the southeast corner of Park and San Jose avenue was sold at auction at the offices of Hally Co. for $1'500.

A two-story house at Morton street and Pacific avenue brought $4000, and the two vacant lots adjoining went for $1000 each. The details of the sales and the purchasers have not ieen prepared for publication. Work on Power House Work on the tig new power house on the north side of the estuary, opposite the Frultvale is progressing rap-Idly. The steel franiewbrk is being put into form aria the structure is fast Hearing completion. There is considerable-; activity in the vicinity of Grand and Paru streets.

Handsome residences are going up. This In the, choicest residence section of the city, and it Is impossible, practically, to purchase a home In that vicinity. lewis Shaw report that while they have made few sales during the, past week that' the large number of inquiries from bona fide prospective purchasers is very gratilying and augurs well for the realty maiket. Business Is picking up considerably, the firm reports. Most of the Inquiries rom the East and from San Francisco, r' 'William Hammond Jr.
