To Seek By June Simpson EUREKA Sam Harrod, attorney for promoters of the proposed Mackinaw Downs Racetrack, reported Thursday that within several days he will be asking the Woodford County Zoning Board of Appeals for approval to vacate an existing road and build a new one. The present road, according to Richard J. Dickinson zoning administrator, ends in a on the I-74 overpass at Goodfield. The racetrack is to lie directly west of this road. Need Zoning OK According to Mr.

Harrod, the zoning board had a regulation stating that any change would have to verils approval. This action, he could be taken without having to go! to the Woodford County Board of Supervisors. Mr. Harrod said he'll also ask for an extension of time. Application for the amended plan was filed earlier but since it was turned down in Tazewell County, it was never brought up for a hearing in Woodford.

The amended plan calls for a complete relocation of structures. Ready to Raise Money According to Mr. Harrod, after final approval by the zoning board, his clients are ready to start raising the money for the racetrack. The original estimate called for spending $6.8 million. There is no prospect yet of building this fall, according to Mr.

Harrod. The new plan calls for a fiveeighths mile track, lying northsouth, and includes parking for 5.400 cars. Space for 2,400 vehicles will be planned in the initial step. It will also include a cafeteria, driver's pad, water tank, an administration building, 840-capacity horse barn, www Bloomington Normal Deaths Mrs. Mary Mattox Mrs.

Persons living on the portion of the road to be abandoned will still have access to their homes, Mr. Dickinson said. Promoters' Burden The reason cited for relocating the road is for the convenience of the racetrack customers as well as for surrounding areas, added Mr. a Dickinson. It is Mr.

Dickinson's understanding that the cost of the road relocation will be born by the track promoters. He says he feels, however, that final approval of the change must come from the board of supervisors, not just the five-man zoning board. Art Garber of Washburn, chairman of the board of supervisors says he, too, feels the final approval must be given by the supervisors. It is the zoning board's function, Mr. Barber added, to recommend or deny zoning changes and these recommendations then have to go back to the board.

He said, however, that even though Woodford supervisors in March changed the ruling SO that they now have final authority in zoning matters, the racetrack issue filed before that ruling and was not made was retroactive.
