May WS Ph7s dea AAontanez for Maddox PHILADELPHIA (AP) The Philadelphia Phillies traded first baseman Willie Montanez to the San Francisco Giants Sunday for outfielder Garry Maddox. Although the Phillies denied it, the trade could be a move to make way for the acquisition of slugger Dick Allen from the Atlanta Braves. The Phillies last week claimed Allen, a first baseman, when the Braves tried to waive him.

Questioned about the Allen angle, Ihillies" manager Danny Ozark said. We don't have Allen, that's for certain." The 27-year-old Montanez was hitting .286 with two homers and 16 runs batted in this year. Maddox. 25. was batting only .120 with one homer and four HBI for the Giants.

Northwestern 2-4 SAN FRANCISCO (AP) Houston's Bob Watson scored baseball's one millionth run in a five-run second inning, but San Francisco rallied for an 8-6 victory on Gary Thomasson's tie-breaking triple in the seventh inning of their Sunday doubleheader opener. The Astros bounced back to beat the Giants 12-8 in the second game on the strength of a six-run fourth inning highlighted by Milt May's two-run single and Rob Andrews' two-run triple. The clubs set a major league record of 42 walks in the doubleheader. breaking the mark of 33 by the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants on April 30, 1W4.

The 26 in the second game broke the National League mark of 25 by Cincinnati and Montreal on July 9, 1973. The major league single-game mark is 30, by Detroit and Philadelphia, May 9, 1916. Watson started the second-inning rally with a walk and stole second. After Jose Cruz walked, May belted a three-run homer off John Montefusco, enabling Watson to score the historic millionth run. "It feels good to contribute something to baseball," said Watson after scoring the historic run.

"I had no idea how many runs were needed when I came to the ballpark, but then I saw where only 12 were needed when the game started. "When I came to bat in the second inning," he recalled, "I saw a one on the scoreboard, so I knew I had a chance. "When the ball was hit, I had to hold Open running Crampton on the second, fifth and ninth holes before drifting back to second with a final-round 70 in the hot, humid weather. The 28-year-old Morgan finished with a 275 total and collected $17,100 from the total purse of $150,000, by far the largest check of his indifferent two-year pro career. David Pearson tried his best but couldn't catch the heavyfooted Baker, wtio earned $25,425 for his first victory at the Alabama International Motor Speedway in a race marred by the death of a relative of Richard Petty in an explosion behind the pit wall. Brad Barker shot a 75 and Doug Holloway fired a 76 to lead Bloomington to a 385 team score. Crestwicke was in second place with a 393 with Mike Sweeney and Irv Bernstein each shooting 77. Terry Edmunds had a 75 and Deon Miller 77 to lead Illinos State University Golf Course to third place, one stroke behind Crestwicke. Highland Park and defending champion Lakeside tied for fourth place at 396.
