Precision Soya is developing the land on the northwest portion of town into a $2 million soybean seed processing facility. The firm plans on being operational by this year's harvest, and will employ about six full-time employees and up to 20 more seasonal workers. Local farmers will grow the soy- beans Precision Soya will process, and sell wholesale to seed compa-' nies.

The original resolution authoriz-" ing the sale, which was approved in April, agreed to sell the land for $3,600 an acre. The property had been appraised at $3,500 an acre. It was discovered later, however, that NI-Gas had a large easement through the property. The land was then reappraised at $2,974.07 an acre, and the amended resolution priced the land for a minimum $3,300 an acre. Two years ago the city and De-Witt County purchased two tracts of land, including the 18-acre tract Precision Soya is developing, in order to have land available to industries and businesses wanting to locate in Farmer City.
