Among the larger projects is the $11 million renovation of the Croton-Harmon station. The railroad will redo all the platforms and extend an overpass at the station's south end so it reaches every track.

Now, only one overpass on the north end connects to alltracks. The station, used by approximately 3,700 commuters a day, is the busiest on. the Hudson Line. Design work is under way on the project, and construction is ex-' pected to begin next year. It is not expected to disrupt Kennard said.

Extension of platforms on the Harlem Line probably will not begin until 2000, he said. Other work, like the rehabilitation of overpasses at the Tuckahoe, Scarsdale and Hartsdale stations, will be designed now but probably, will not be built until the railroad gets additional fending in its next five-year capital program, beginning in 2000. Among the improvements that also will have to wait until at least 2000 is the installation of elevators in the Larchmont station. The stations westbound platform is not accessible to the handicapped, and village officials and residents have complained about it for years. The station building itself is little more than a small office on the platform, which lacks a bathroom and wa-: ter fountain.
