OAB3QAJSTD TRIBUKE. KAECn 28. 1901 THURSDAY EVENING, 1 LEGAL. ADVERTISEMENTS. ADVERTISEMENTS.

COAST LI TO OPEN SUNDAY. Moody, In 1894, was put Into the, presidential chair to keep tha tottering fabric from falling. Thera was no possibility of strengthening the structure. The crash came, the Institution ceased to exist and only a short time ago were the legal, features of the case brought to a close. After leaving the First National Gold Bank In 1S9L Mr.

Moody was Instrumental in organizing the Home Savings Bank, of which he, was the first president. He retained the position about four years, when ha was succeeded by the late Captain Alnsworth, and the name of the concern was 'changed to the Central Bank, which is now at IN i 8 1 KzJu Lb 1 the northeast corner of Fourteenth and Broadway. A few years ago, when Colonel J. C. McMullen was about to establish the: State Savings Bank, Mr.

Moody entered heartily in the enterprise at the lime or nis aeatn, was vice-presmeuL ul-. the concern. Mr. Moody's estate comprises realty, money In bank, stocks and first mortgage bonds. A great deal of the realty and personalty located In this city, and comprises among other things the Vendame Hotel, near Ninth and Washington streets, Gates' stable on Thirteenth street, and a number of houses at Clay and Fourteenth street, together with a number of houses and lots at Twentieth and San Pablo avenue and In various other parts of this city.

Three years ago, when there was fear of domestic friction among- members of the family, the 'estate was appraised at $375,000. Some years ago, Mr. Moody and his first wife were divorced. The first Mrs. Moody is now Mrs.

Addie Hubbard of Preston, Sonoma County. Later Mr. Moody married a Mrs. May Robinson, then a teacher in Alameda. This lady with her daughters, Mrs.

Edwin Gray and Miss May Robinson, reside at the Moody home. Mr. Moody's only son, William Is a- resident of this city. His two daughters are Mrs. F.

Blood and Mrs. Nellie E. Appleton of Sonoma County. Mr. Moody was not a member of any fraternal order and was not a member of any church.

Indeed, he was a pronounced agnostic, a feeling aroused by the fact that his great, great grandmother, Alice Dwyer, of historic fame, was burned at the stake as a witch in Salem, Massachusetts in the dark days of superstition in that commonwealth. The date of the funeral has not been announced. EOF (Continued From Page 1.) Seventh, but Coroner Mehrmann has not been able to learn the Identity of the person making that statement. SON-IN-LAW'S THEORY. City Clerk Tompkins was decedent's son-in-law.

He states that on last Wednesday evening Allman called at V) hrkiian orinartintlw In Kaaf tvJ, LLTAi V. 111 Lil ICOL Ul soirits and stated that he Intended spirits, ana statea tnat ne intended leaving on Thursday for a trip on his stage line which he operated from Caz- adero up the coast. "jn my opinion the old gentleman strayed off and fell overboard," says Clerk Tompkins. KIDNAPING THEORY. There was a report circulated that Mrs.

Tompkins believed her father was foully murdered; that he hadH been kidnaped and held for a ransom; that a medium had stated that Mr. All-man was very ill; that he had been picked up on Eighth street, not three blocks from his home, on night of his disappearance, and carried in a hack for nearly a block, when hack, driver and passenger dropped out of sight. The medium could tell no more but she was sure that though very ill he would be restored to his family. Regarding this story Mrs. Tompkins says: "I have though; that some one had given my father something and had then carried him away to hold him for a ransom." But we know that if such a thing were, contemplated those who were holding him would have to torture him before they could induce him to sign his name to a check," LEFT NO WIDOW.

I Mr. Allman left considerable property. He owned, the southwest corner of Seventh and Clay streets and several houses on either fronting, besides property in East Oakland. He also owned the stage line referred to. His wife died some year's ago and a young i married woman, who has been separated from her husband, has been keeping house for the aged widower.

The housekeeper who declines vigorously to disclose her true name', claiming that she abhors notoriety, Tefutes the statement that Mr. Allman leaves a "Some paper referred to me as Mrs. Allman, his widow," said his housekeeper, "but I regard this as scandalous and an outrage. I was Mr. All-man's housekeeper.

I collected his rents each month and deposited the money in the bank for him; and I am not his widow. I never intend to lay claim to any widowship. There is nothing in theyworld that would induce me to do I am well acquainted with Mr. Allman's daughter, Mrs. Tompkins, and we are close friends.

So far. as the clrifHinstances of his death are concerned I know nothing further than that he left the house Thursday morning, but he made no preparation for any trip to his stage line." Mr. Allman left, beside his daughter, a son! George Allman. who is in business in Vigan, Island of Luzon. George went to the Philippines in the Fourteenth United States Infantry, .150 18 15 09 07 124 65 60 OS 20 10 12 04 2 SO 40' T.afc una Colusa Fortune MINING STOCK3.
