Dr. Rowan will be 96 year', old on March 11, and the poems were sent as souvenirs of the occasion This sphinx is my brother, so they say, Made of stone schist and clay. He worked up through ages of ancient night. Into this beautiful, southern light. Country of Thee, Sweet Land of CONGRATULATIONS TO THE BLADE The Evening Blade announces that it will soon move into the Central Building, on Main street, opposite the City Hall, and that it has engaged Mr Edward Armstrong for business manager. Whereupon the Register extends congratulations. The Blade will have fine enlarged quarters at its new centra! location.

And its new manager, Mr. Armstrong, is known to the Register as a gentleman of the first order and an exeep-j tionably able newspaper man, whom it will be a pleasure to welcome to this field. It was music day, and across the solitude of the desert Came the lonely chant from afar. As it were, it came down from the singing star. So music like it was ever It went on and on.

then it thrilled and thrilled, Then it quavered, then it was gone. oh. Baldy, how strange and brave and old you look! Your age has never been found in any book. Oh, Baldy. you challenge the passing show, And tell them how to go.

If they heed not, you tell them they'll be punished, Don't you know. The bewildered mariner who sails these sunset shores, Smiles when he sees how old Baldy soars. All the colors of the desert and the mountains, lights and shades, Are pictured in your cheeks, out and in. And you have a big dimple in your yellow chin. Dear old Baldy, now we must part, and in the fizzy phosphates We will drink a bumper or two, to your health and heart, Hoping vou may live a million years, till all the seven seas dry out And some ancient glacier slides down and knocks the equator out And the North and South pole will shake hands at last.
