Wednesdoy, Oct, 2, 1963 Student Minister Visits At Oquawka OQUAWKA - Randy Carlson, ivlio is In the ministry of Jehovah's Witnesses at Hope, Ark., is spending several days here with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Carlson and family. Randy will deliver his first sermon at Hope in November. Mrs. Beulah Brnun and Charles Brooks and son Philip attended funeral services for Mrs. Clar­ ence Smith at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Fort Madison Sept. 21. Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Mrs. Rhoda and the late Herman Polpeter of Fort Madison. Mrs. Polpeter was a former resident of Oquawka. Miss Jo Anne Carlson began her work at Southern University in Carbondale Monday. Her mother, Mrs. Vincent Carlson, and Mrs. Dayton Devore took her to Carbondale Sunday. Mrs. Lloyd Fryrear and Mrs. Carol Hays and sons Michael and Mark visited Sept. 21 in the home of the former's son Duane and family in LaHarpe. Mrs. W. E. Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Werts of Albuquerque, N. M., arrived here Monday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. Vincent Carlson and family. The Werts are former Oquawka residents. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Kennedy and daughters have moved from Burlington into the former Presbyterian Church parsonage. Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy are owners of Oquawka Bowling Lanes. Mr. and Mrs. Durbin Schell and Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Finch attended the Shrine circus in Peoria Sept. 21. DeLong Group Plans Project DeLONG — Beginning a new year, the DeLong Congregational Women's Fellowship met in the church dining room Sept. 24. The devotions were given by Mrs. Leita Bonney. A review of an article taken from a magazine, "The Cross and the Switch Blade," by Rev. David Wilkinson, was presented by Mrs. Earl Bowman. There was a discussion of the annual chicken pie supper and bazaar Oct. 31. Mrs. Charles Peck and Mrs. Harley Steele were appointed co-chairmen of the bazaar. Mrs. Charles McCoy, Mis. Rolland Wise, Mrs. Merrill Dunbar, Mrs. William Currey, Mrs. Golda Plummer, Mrs. Leslie McCoy and Mrs. Borrell McWilliams are to make arrangements for the supper. The year's quota for Friendly Service was read by Mrs. Sam Cline. Refreshments were served by the hostesses, Mrs. Raymond James and Mrs. Cline. Visit Steele Home Lawrence Peterson, Lost Springs, Kans., his daughter, Mrs. Lowell Rhodes, Witchita, Kans., and daughter-in-law, Mrs. Loo Peterson, Salina, Kans., were recent visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Harley Steele and other relatives. Mis. Sam Cline and Mrs. Leita Bonney attended a women's fellowship in Peoria Thursday. Fort Louisburg, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, has been a National Historic Site since 1928.
