54 bursar at the Mill Neck Manor School for i the Deaf who died Thursday In addition to his position aa bursar at the school for the past 15 years Mr Yeadon served for the past four years as finanrial director of the Mill Neck Foundation Inc which raises funds for the school and other charitable organisations Mr Yeadon was responsible for running the Mill Neck Apple Festival held each October at the Mill Neck campus to raise funds Bom in Chicago Mr Yeadon came to Long Island in the late 1960s to serve as the financial director of the ftinity 1 Lutheran' School in Hicksville He graduated from Valparaiso University' in Indiana in 1957 During the early 1950s he served in the Corps Hie lived in East Northport for the past 18 years Survivors include his wife the former Margaret Weidner a son Timothy of St Louis a daughter Catherine of East North-port two brothers James of Veto Beech Fla and Timothy of North Judaom hid and- a grandson Services 10 am today St Luke Lutheran Church Dix Hills burial Locust Valley Cemetery Robin Zimmermann 25 Robin Zimmermann 25 a former Huntington' resident died in Newport News Va Wednesday of complications from a tubal pregnancy Bom in Flushing Queens Mrs Zimmermann moved to Huntington tiwiwpr Rh wm a 1077 graduate nf Hunting ton High School She was married in 1983 and moved to Virgin- ia with her husband John to start a refrigeration and heating business She was vice president of the company and worked as an air-conditioning mechanic Besides her husband survivors include a son Adam her' parents Gloria and Dan Socd of Huntington a sister Cindy joined in 1959 two years after the university was established at the mer campus at Planting Fields Arboretum in Oyster Bay He was bom in Cambridge Maas and graduated from Bates College in Maine with a bachelor of science degree He earned a master's degree in biology from Boston College and a PhD in biology from the University of Chicago He taught ecology ornithology and soo-logy at Michigan State University from 1955 to 1959 Lawrence Slobodkin former chairman of the ecology department current president of the University Senate at Stony Brook and a personal friend said one of Dr legacies was "the current state of environmental awareness" In the 1970s Dr Smolker served as chairman of Brookhaven Board of Waterways and Natural Resources One of his two sons David of Tampa Fla said he was "a serious chef of Chinese cuisine He also was an avid bird watcher and cultivated about 150 varieties of orchids in a greenhouse aft his home here Dr' Smolker is survived by his wife Rosemary managing editor of the Quarterly Review of Biology a national journal published aft Stony Brook another son Mirheel of Seattle a daughter Rachel Smolker of Perth Australia and a grandchild David of Tampa Funeral arrangements were incomplete Setauket Robert Smolker 62 a pioneer in the American environmental movement and a member of a small cadre of scientists that successfully sought the banning of DDT died early yesterday at University Hospital in Stony Kook Dr Smolker who was an associate professor of ecology and evolution at the State University at Stony Brook was admitted to the hospital about 10 days ago after suffering a heart attack He was known nationally as one of the founders of the Environmental Defense Fund a group of adentista and lawyers who use the legal system and scientific data to force pollutants off the market and to protect the environment Among the successes were: the Kenning of the pesticide DDT nationally in 1972 restrictions on the pesticides mirex and chlordane strict limits on the toxic pollutant FCB which is used in electrical equipment a national drinking water alert because of cancer-causing agents in community water supplies and suits against the Southwest Sewer District The nationwide DDT ban grew out of a warning to Suffolk County in the 1960s by Smolker who was an ornithologist and others that mosquito spraying with DDT was endangering the
