Br'kr Bill Smith, of the Punxsutaw ney Spirit, aud Br'er Jake Wenk, of the Tionesta Republican, are threatening to produoe the finest gardens ever produced this spring, and their effervescing Joy 1 tbethought of it almost tempts us to go out and buy a new hoe for our wife, too, Brookville Republican. Go up, Smith and swat this editor with a mighty swipe, He means to cast aspersion upon us Destroy him, utterly. Thr Dauphin oounty court holds tba the act extending terms of publio olDcers by constitutional amendments to be un constitutional as far as relates to judges Decision was given in the test case brought by Judge Barrett, of Pbiladel phia.

The attorney general will appeal to the State Supreme Court. The decision is not understood to apply to other of licials whose terms were extended by the adoption of the amendments to the con stitution. Senator T. M. Kurtz, of Punxsutaw ney, representing the Jeilersou-Indiana district io the State Senate has introduced a bill providing for the purchase of the Cook land tract often thousand acres, ly ing in Jefferson, Forest and Clarion counties, the land to be used as a State park.

The legislation provides that th governor appoint three persona to ex amine the land, report the advisability of the State purchasing It and fix a fai value for the tract. The land in question Is owned in the main by A. Cook Sons Co. It has a frontage on the Clarion river of nine miles, has plenty of good water and timber and a number of producing gas wells. Legislators regard the proposition favorably and it baa the endorsement of the people throughout the State.

The bill will, in all probability, be passed but it Is feared that the price which the traot will run up to will be almost prohibitive. The commission to be appointed by the governor is to serve without compensation but will he allowed fifteen bundled dollars for expeuttes. Thkrk will be no hunters' license law In this state right away, the bill proposing to tax every citizen $1 for the privilege of bunting having been pat to sleep In committee. The proposition met with a storm of protest from the country districts. Thr bill to increase the salaries of judges in this state passed the House at Harrlsburg by 108 to 80.

Representative Campbell of Forest voted against the raise. The bill now goes to the Senate, which body ia expected to pass It without much opposition. Th br Isn't any room for doubt the first requisite of a successful politician is an adequate presa bureau. Greatness in these days means publicity. A conspiracy on the part of the newspapers will consign the most eminent man to oblivion.

Colonel Roosevelt knows this. He Is now on a speecbmaklng tour of the South and West, during which be ex pects to be politically resuscitated. Punxy Spirit. Recently Champ Claik leeturad be fore a Philadelphia audience and in the course of bia talk paid this compliment ex-president Roosevelt. Theodore Roosevelt may well be classed as one of the three greatest scholars of the country, the other two being Jefferson and Adams.

Roosevelt knows a little bit about more bings than any other man in the We are now convinced that Mr. Clark Is thoroughly competent to pieslde over a Democratio Congress. Dr. Stitt, district superintendent of publio schools in New York, lias broad iews concerning the ne of school build ings which in most citiea and towns are vacant a large part of the time. He would ave mixed dancing for the children, moving picture shows weekly, bowling I leys in the cellar, cooking schools, and clubs for fathers and mothers.

Thus the school bousea would be maiie lor the districts veritable social centers, and school life woul'l be more attractive. From Harrisburg cou.es the report that stale Commissioner of health Samuel G. Dixon recently announced that reports received from the laboratories of his de partment showed that certain micro organisms, hitherto unknown, had been discovered in the blood ofcblldren suffer ng from iofsnlile psislysis and that of monkeys which had been Inoeulat-d There are hopes expressed at the depart ment that the organism may be the germ which has caused the disease in various parts of the State. Further experiments are to be made. Cooksbiirg.
