Several weeks ago It looked as though there would be a bumper crop of oats, but the hot weather came on too quick and lasted too lens; without any rains. Is out In Long Creek township and about six miles east of Decatur Friday, the machine threshed twenty acres of wheat for W.

Rucker on the John Rucker farm. It threshed out bushels, an average of a fraction over thirty-three bushels to the acre It tested out sixty- one pounds On a nearby nineteen- tract, belonging to Orville Laskey. the yield for the whole tract only 109 bushels, or a little less than six bushels to the acre. In the same neighborhood. Peter Beck's field yielded between eight and ten bushels and tested only fifty-four pounds ON BLACK SOIL.

The wide difference between the Rjcker and other yields is not explained, ae the former field did not receive any special treatment It was Lancaster wheat, considered by some grain men as the best, was on black soil, while the lower yielding was on timber land The straw in the Rucker wheat was long and heavy and required fifty-five pounds of twine to tie it. While In some Important lines, notably in steel and leather, foreign demands are agafn the overshadowing feature, it Is bo- cause of any lack of the confidence that domestic buying has abated. Many Interests here, having already covered their requlreranets well ahead, naturally proceed more slowly In extending committments further, and this spirit of conservatism, manifest throughout the country, is most reassuring In Its bearing on the future.
