City Council A letter signed by former Planning Commission members and citizens of Derby at large was forwarded to Anderson and a copy of the request was also sent to Gov George Docking Original basis for the request for an official opinion on the legality of the City Council's actions stemmed from an ordinance which abolished the Derby Planning Commission The letter to Anderson pointed out that two ordinances which had 'established the Planning Commissi cm and set the membership were repealed at the first meeting of the Council after the April 2 election Action was also taken at that time by a split 5-3 vote of the Council members to abolish the Planning Commission Two Reasons The letter quotes Councilman Charles Roseberry who Introduced the ordinance providing for the abolishment as giving two reasons for the action: takes as many as six weeks for someone to secure a bulding permit or to change zoning and can speed up commercial growth by taking Planning Com-nission matters into our own hands until such time as a more workable and better coordinated lan can be made to set up a Planning Commission By abolishing the Planning Commission we will make an actual building inspector out of the position of chief building inspector Building permits can be secured from him in a matter of minutes" The appealing group contends that building permits were not issued in Derby by the
