Alpha News ^ITPood Board of Education ipproves Grant Application ACPHA-AIWOM) School Dlft-lclpal, plans to attend a work- trict 223 Board of Education shop at Peoria Aug. 9-10 members voted Juno 20 to apply for a federal grant to purchase materials tor the district's new learning center. Board members were also told remedial reading program noxt year would qualify" for state funds. The board voted to purchase a complete series of Olnn reading texts for grades 1-0. Texts tor the first three grades will be purchased In the time for use In the fall, and books for the remaining three grades will be purchased tho following year. Shorter Day?' School officials reported they are Investigating the possibility pf shortening tho school day without) disrupting the existing class plan. In other business, the board: — Heard a report from the treasurer that the funds for the Ralph Kelly music scholarship have been invested and will draw 5% per cent interest. — Accepted a bid from Alexander Lumber Co., Woodhull, to replace two doors at the high school for $215.
