And still the war between tbe citizens of Newton. Jasper county, and tbe officers of the Paom, Decatur Evansville railway is in progress, but tbe fight may end on Saturday next. It's a queer case. The following special telegram gives additional particulars concerning tbe freeze out and the present condition of affairs; NEWTON, Iu. July The trouble with the P.

i). Railroad company at this place bas assumed a new phase. On last Thursday John B. Cohrs, on behalf of tbe railroad company, met Stale's Attorney Fithian and several of our citizens at Olney and oeld a consultation in regard to tin matter. Mr.

Cohrs proposed to leave the uttlement of the matter to the arbitrament of teb business men at Newton, fire to be selected by each party, whose decision was to be final. To this Mr. Fithian agreed, provided that business should be resumed on the road at this point hy Monday, July 11. This Mr. Cuhrs promised should be done, and it wan thought by all concerned Hint Ihe matter was settled When Monday came, however, no trains were stopped at this place, and the road refused to' receive Ircigbt or passengers for Newton.

Thereupon Stale's Attorney Fithiao ordered the aheritt of Peoria county to serve the writ of attachment in his hands upon Mr, G. L. Bradbury, the General Manager of the road, for cimlrmpl of court, in disobeying the injunction issued by Ihe Circuit Court. Mr. Hradbury will have a hearing before Judge Jones lo-morrow.

It is be- liured that Mr. (John acted in good faith when he made the agreement tn arbitrate, but that Mr. Branbury refused to carry it out. Mr Cohrs has gone lo New York lo cmsnll wilb the president of the road, and there will be a meeting nf the stockholders and Directors next Saturday, when, it is understood, some of the officers who brought on this trouble will be asked to resign, and a big family niiarrel is brewing in the cump of Ibe managers. When tlio trouble began the railroad company bad many friends in this county, who, now that they have violated a plain agreement, are doing all tlu-y ran lo aid Ihe Stale's Attorney.

HOHB AnolIT IT. The Peoria Journal of the ISth contained the follow'ng allusion to the racket: Next Monday Manager Bradbury, the L. I). H. will go down to Newton to unswer a charge of contempt of court, preferred by the county attorney of Jasper coanty.

Messrs. Cohrs, Cobleigh and Anderson are likewise included tbe warrant, but it is understood that only Mr. Bradbury will be held. The facts in Ihe case are as follows. There is a narrow gauge road within T5 feet of thu O.

depot in Newton. The law- Bays that all passenger ir tins nmit come a full stop within 2(10 feet of any railroad crossing. The L. i D. trains have been in the hahit (if running up to tbe depot and slopping there, thus technically violating tbe law, but not doing it in reality, for at tbe depot they come lo full stop and lie there a full minute, or the ordinary time required to take on passengers "and freight.

The county attorney, whether he wanted to blackmail Ihe company or show bis importance, brought at one time 27 suits for the technical violation of this law. Uc annoyed tbe company so much that they finally complied with this law, but they discharged their agent, took out the telegraph instrument and removed the operator. Oue freight train stops there a day, but as there is no agent Ihe conductors transact all the business. Freight is taken for Newton aj for all other points, but as no agent tbe money has to be prepaid. The road thereupon called in the aid of tbe railroad and warehouse commissioners, and Bradbury is down there on Mondav to see about it.

It is a case of a fight. The road considers that the suits were begun against them out of spite hy an intermeddling lawyer to try and work up business against thrm. No accident has ever occurred at Newton, and they have kepi within tbe limit ol the law. They now keep within its letter. All trains stop within 800 feet of th'' railway crossing, and then pull hy the station, just asthpy would if there was no station there, with Ihe exception of a freight train nnee a ilny.

Ike Tthiraiatn Mr. ThotnuT. Eckert. General Manager of tbe Western Unien Ttlafrapb. sent from Haw York the following telegram to Col.

Clowry, his general superintendent at Chicago: The prompt and satisfactory manner in which our employes have met tbe emergencies of tbe service during the past few days more than a passing recognition. Manager Getty, of Decatur Western Union Office, proved himself equal to the emergency, and was up early and late receiving the regular bulletins aud receiving and lending special dispatches about the assassination for various parties.
