MATSON, Prop. Phone 843-3185 West Filer Ludington Bessie M. Selby Dies Today Miss Bessie Mae Selby, 77, of 1007 N. James died at 7:40 a.m. this morning at Paulina Stearns Hospital where she had been a patient since Sept.

2. She was born Oct. 31, 1887, in Buttersville and moved to Custer Township, south of Scottville, when she was a child where she grew up and attended school. She attended Scottville high school, taking a spe-6 cial course for kindergarten teachers. She was a manager of Scottville Bell Telephone Co.

in Scottville for many years and then worked at the General Telephone Co. office in Luding-1 ton until retiring in 1953. After retiring, she worked part time at the Morris Five and Dime Store and at Gibbs Goodies. She was a member of Church of Nazarene of Ludington and for many years was the church treasurer. Surviving are one sister, Mrs.

John (Bertha) Palmer of Flint, several nieces and nephews including Mrs. Charles (Beatrice) Cole, Mrs. Clarence (Betsie) Rathbun and Mrs. Julius (Margaret) Weaver, all of Scottville. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m.

Greger Christensen, 63, of Scottville died Tuesday evening at Paulina Stearns Hospital where she had been a patient for six days. Belva DePeel was born March 16, 1902, in Eden Township. She married Greger Christensen in 1924 and the couple moved to Scottville. Mr. Christensen preceded and her in death on July 15, 1965, a son Bernard also preceded her in Surviving are two sons, Maj.

Donald Christensen of the Pentagon, Washington, D. and Dale of Milwaukee and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. Friday from Stephens Chapel.

The moon rises today at 5:16 p.m. and sets Friday at 4:21 a.m. Today's Alpena 66 Grand Rapids 65 50 Family Hopes To Open Newl Golf Course In Backyard STOCKBRIDGE (AP) Sometime next summer, the Richard Price family hopes have a nine-hole golf course its back yard. The five-member family, including three teen-aged daughters, already has spent a year and a half on the project and hope to open the 3,100 yard course to the public by next July 4. The family bought an 80-acre farm three years ago and, after two bad crop years, decided to convert 70 acres into a golf course.

"Last year I still planted 40 acres to corn," said Price, "and when it was ruined by frost and drought I had no more doubts." PTA Council Meets At Home Of L. A. Wilcox The executive board of the Ludington Parent Teachers Council met recently the home of L. A. Wilcox, president.

The meeting of the council, which consists of seven delegates from each local PTA unit in the city, will meet Oct. 11 at 8 p.m. at Lakeview school to formulate the year's work. Donald C. Baldwin, superintendent of schools, will be guest speaker.

Presidents of local units are Mrs. Amil Laird, Pere Marquette, Mrs. Francis LaFond, Lakeview, Mrs. Erving Johnson, Foster and Mrs. John David Larson of Franklin.

Other officers of the council are Mrs. L. A. Wilcox, president; Mrs. Alvin Finholm, vice president; Erving H.

Johnson, father vice president; Mrs. Albert Benson, teacher vice president; Mrs. Marilyn Septrion, treasurer; Mrs. Arthur Pirtle, historian; Mrs. Warren Iteen, parliamentarian.

They have laid 6,000 feet of pipe for irrigating the course and now are rushing to finish seeding "so the grass can get a good growing season winter and another in the spring before it has heavy traffic on it," Price said. Pomona Grange Holds Meeting Mason County Pomona Grange met Tuesday evening at Sheridan townhall with members of Fountain Grange as hosts. Pomona Master John DeHoff presided over the fifth degree meeting.
