THEKE is no Democratic organ north of "Mason and Dixon's line" which at this particular epoch in history could be convicted of offensive partisanship. Springer and other Democratic candidates for congress to vote the Demo cratic ticket, and by so doing to vote money out of their own pockets and the chance to labor to workingmen abroad. THE most barefaced effort to deceive the people ever made by the Democratic party is the introduction and passage of the popgun bills in the house providing for free coal, iron, barbed wire and sugar, which they all voted against in the passage of the senate bill only a few minutes before. Every Democratic leader knew when those bills passed the house they could not pass the senate unless it might perhaps be the free sugar bill, and they knew that if the free sugar bill should pass it would bankrupt the treasury, and when they voted for it in the house they did not expect or want it to pass. Free sugar would be ruinous unless accompanied by some provision to produce $50.000,000 to $70,000,000 additional revenue. The Pullman Strike.

It makes the sympathetic person heart-sick to read of the result of the Pullman strike on the men and their families who were formerly employed in these works. Misdirected by designing and foolish agitators, at at time when there was some contention between the managers of the works and the men, in relation to wages, and there was a fair prospect of coining to an understanding, the employes peremptorily laid down their tools and quit work. The trouble grew out of a reduction of wages, the managers contending that the reduction was necessary on account of the loss of business due to the business depression and that even at the wages they had conceded they were run ning the business at a loss, and offered to submit their books to a committee of employes in support of the statement The men whose minds had been poisoned by fool friends refused to believe that a reduc tiou of wages was necessary, assuming that eight hours' work was worth as much at one time as another, elected to believe that the offer to exhibit the books was a mere subterfuge on the part of the managers. Instead of seeking work elsewhere, they undertook to force the company to take them back at wages they themselves might name. In other words they proposed that the concern should do no business until it acceded to their demands.

The professional labor leaders who were at the bottom of it made the deceived workingmen believe that all they had to do to win was to "hold out'' A man by the name of Debs, filially, as a pretext to accomplish another thing, took up the cause of the Pullman strikes He attempted to tie up the entire commerce of the United States, and after having done so to command the managers of the Pullman works what wages they should pay. His scheme cost the country 880,000,000 and started himself and many of his tools on the road to punishment for insurrection, but it did cot help the Pullman strikers. Their money was gone and their families that were once happy ard well fed came to want Contributions ceased. Many made application for their former places and were accepted. The places others had left were filled by new men and the works started again.

Those who listened to demagogues and refused to listen to newspapers and men who gave them good advice and did not appeal to their prejudices, refused to go to work until yesterday, when they made a general break for their old places, but it was too late. The places had been filled. The last milestone had been reached. They had been to relief headquarters at Kensington, and instead of finding relief they found posted on the door the following: Until Further Notice." And then it was that they deserted the demagogues and turned toward their old employes, who had always paid them their wages; but it was too late. They have no money.

Neither they nor their families have anything to eat. They can't get away, and unless the hand of charity is extended to these once prosperous mechanics they must suffer. Much has been said, against Geo. M. Pullman.

Much that has been said may be true, but bad as Qeo. M. Pullman may be, he is one of those American citizens who has the genius to conduct a business at a profit that employe thousands of American workingmen, with their families, and is always able to pay them their wages. He may be proud and arrogant, and mean and cold, but whatever ho is, he is worth more to the thousands of men he employed and paid than nil the labor lead ere and walking delegates that could be corralled in a ten-acre field; and the great Pullman strike proves the asstr tion. Perfidy and Dishonor.

The passage of the senate bill means party perfidy and Cleveland to Chairman Wilson. The house, in spite of the admonition, committed that act perfidy and dishonor. All that is needec now to complete the perfidy is for Presi dent Cleveland to either sign the bill allow it to become a law under the con stitutional provision. When this has been done it will be hoove the people to wipe out and foreve bury the party that after deliberating on the tariff for nearly a year, a matte of such vital importance to the business of the country, succeed in enacting perfidy and dishonor. )n the other hand, Fred. Reman, the Republican nominee is a first-class man of fine ability and good has none of the elements of the demagogue about him. He is well liked all over he district, and will put up a lively ignt for the flighty Mr. Lane. The convention nominated Mr.

Reman in the second ballot. The other names before the convention were Judge Bradshaw of Madison county, and Lynch of Bond county. Part of the delegation rom Moultrie county missed the train and were thus stranded in Decatiit, and cast their votes by wire from Deeatur. They voted for Reman. Cincinnati and Louisville Excursion.
