Bowman are settling down to life as usual in Sausalito after considerable traveling. Dr. Bowman, who is part owner of the 47-ft. Alden ketch with Peter Vandermale of Mill Valley, did the navigating on a cruise they started on April 12. With them was John Ravizza, son of Mr.

and Mrs. Edward Ravizza of Strawberry. They cruised down the coast, stopping at Santa Barbara, Newport Beach, San Diego and Baha before reaching La Paz, Mexico, where Mrs. Bowman joined her husband. They flew home and the wrent on to the Hawaiian Islands, returning last week.

The Bowmans took their own 10-day trip to the Islands, returning in time to greet their daughter, Anne a Bowman, who was coming home after spending two years at Saint Blaise in Switzerland, where she was graduated from La Chatelainie High School. The other daughter. Pamela Kay Bowman, is home from the University of California, where she will return in the fall as a junior. MR. AND MRS.

Richard Cosgrave and daughter are among the new residents on Linden Lane in San Rafael. They were recently visited by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Cosgrave, Sanger ranchers in the San Joaquin Valley, where his older brother. Robert, is also a rancher.

The Miss Polland Plans Wedding In October Dr. and Mrs. W. Scott Polland of Ross announced the engagement of their daughter, Marian, to Dr. Lennart E.

Suther at a gathering of family members and close friends at their home on Friday evening. Marian is the sister of W. Scott Polland and Mrs. James A. Weeden of Sunnyvale and Mrs.

Raymond B. Raiser of Saratoga. She attended the University of California and returned in January from two years at University of Cologne, Germany. At Berkeley she was affilated with Alpha Phi. Dr.

Suther is the son of Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Suther of Minneapolis, and the brother of Dr.

Dan Suther of San Diego, Mrs. Vernon Kuhlman of Alexandria, and George Suther of Minneapolis. He was graduated from the University of Minnesota and is a member of the San Rafael Medical Group. California scholastic federation. Pi Alpha Tau and the Athletic Assoc. THE JOE ASIANOS of Kentfield will depart on Aug. 4 for a six week tour of Italy. They will fly via the polar route to London, then Copenhagen, Zurich, and Milan.

From there they will tour Italy. They will visit Mr. home town of Ostuni, in Brindisi Province, and all the small towns in the area where he played in the band as a young man. They will also visit Mrs. birth place of Peterone in Introdacqua Province.

EVER SINCE designer Cristobal Balenciaga tried a bare shoulder gown last year, and Jacqueline Kennedy put one on the front pages, the idea has been catching on.

Balmain, the dresser of queens and film stars, tried the naked shoulder with a short heavy white silk evening dress. Two of his willowy models also paraded by in flowing chiffon long gowns, one in red and the other black. One shoulder was bare and the other decorated with a velvet bow. THOSE SLIT skirts that provocatively bared the leg to just above the knee came in clinging high-necked crepes such as one in red, topped by a tailored jacket, that showed every bone and muscle in the body. Another floor length gown that had the fashion press applaud- BALMAIN TOUCH- ing had an orange beaded, high- necked top and slim deep olive green skirt slit to the knee, the slit edged with the orange beads.

STILL ANOTHER winner: A floor length bright orange wool coat, tailored like a jacket, with brown mink collar and cuffs. Underneath was an ivory- colored wool gown also cut to show the leg to the knee. Program Staff To Be Feted At Party Tonight By MARC More than one hundred teenagers. volunteers and statf members of Marin Aid to Retarded Children will be honored at a recognition ceremony and party at 7:30 tonight at the Jewish Community Center in San Rafael.

The honorees were participants in Operation Respite, a residential summer program for mentally handicapped which was held for the first time this summer. Adult members of the volunteer corps who supplemented the professional staff are Mesdames Winfred Detsch of the American National Red Cross; Donald Kelley of the Volunteer Bureau of Marin; Walter Laidlaw and William Roberts of the MARC Volunteers. Don Caseldine will be presented with a special award for his volunteer catering services in the program. Marin friends have just learned of the engagement of Kathleen Patricia Meyers of Geneva. Switzerland, to Geoffrey White Robinson, whose parents live in Fategahr, India.

Kathy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Y. Meyers of Geneva. The family formerly lived in Belvedere.

Announcement of the engagement was made to local friends by Mrs. Meyers who is staying in Belvedere for a month. Kathy is also in California, spending the summer with the John Bridgmans of Belvedere at their ranch in Mendocino County. The bride-elect is the sister of Mrs. Leland Embry (Jeanne Meyers i of San Francisco, and Terry Meyers of Geneva.

I Geoffrey is the son of Dr. and Mrs. William A. Robinson. Dr.

Robinson is with the Presbyterian Mission in India as a medical missionary. The future bridegroom is the brother of Terry Robinson of Baltimore, and Margaret, Katherine, Bruce and Gorty Robinson of Fategahr. Kathy attended elementary school in Belvedere and studied at Redwood High School. She is a graduate of Ecole ale Geneva, and intends to continue her studies at Middlebury College, Vermont, where she is a senior. Delta Delta Delta is i her sorority.

Her fiance is also a senior at Middlebury College where he is affiliated with Delta Kappa Epsilon. He attended preparatory school in Michigan. The wedding will be held in Mead i a 1 Chapel at Middlebury College on Sept. 4. The young couple will live in East Middlebury, Vt.

The Mill Valley Tennis Club is planning a steak barbecue on Aug. 7 at the clubhouse for the members and their college-age children, beginning with a tennis round-robin at 5 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. James Rutledge, club social chairmen, are heading the event.

Mrs. Sam Farber and Mrs. James Stephenson are serving as reservations chairmen for the informal party..
