Those of you who favor alien fields for salmon and steelhead fishing should travel north. Give the Trinity River between Weitehpec and Willow Creek a try. Or drive to Happy Camp on the upper Klamath River for fresh- run steelhead, or, if those areas are too far away, try the Sacramento River in the Redding, Red Bluff region. If you haven't the time to travel that far for a shot at salmon, how about the Muir Beach area of our part of the Pacific? You rate salmon fishing outside the Gate as extra good, but some fish are being taken every day the boats can get out. STEVENS SUPER SOPH BARRY San Francisco Rick Barry (24) goes high with Jerry Lucas during an exhibition game.

Barry and the rest of the Warriors will be at College of Marin gymnasium Thursday night in an intrasquad game starting at 8 o'clock. Half the proceeds of the game will go to the American Cancer Society. Cost is $2. Aussie Captures Surfing Tourney SAN DJKGO Robert Nat Young is elated after winning the World Surfing Championships at Ocean Beach. stoked because it's the first year anyone from outside the country holding the meet has won.

FROM CHINA CAMP came work that some bass to 14 pounds are being taken. two fish to the said Alice Quan, who also mentioned that FROM LEE I the trollers working the Sisters bait emporium and salmon boat headquarters came news that Saturday the Lucky Day boated 6 salmon to 10 pounds off Muir Beach, the Yvette netted 7 to 14 pounds, and the Sea Wolf came in with 7 to 26 pounds. IF YOU are still not satisfied, then give the area by or near Red Rock a try.

The boat R.S.P., on a bass fishing trip, netted 7 limits of striped bass to 11 pounds and ONE SALMON of 12 pounds. Why the caps? Just because the Red Rock Area has many times in the past caught as many salmon as bass trolling with the regular salmon gear, (three pound sinkers). ALSO FROM Anderson's shop in Oakland the reports on striper striking were exciting. The boat Trade Winds took 31 bass to 10 pounds while drift fishing; the Anna V. unloaded 24 stripers to 12 pounds in the Red Rock area, the Cherokee had four limits to 12 pounds.

The boat Privateer drove to the Farallones after rockfish and loaded up with 34 limits of assorted rockfish and area are getting stripers. CHARLIE SMELTZ of Crockett Harbor reported bass trolling quite okay with fish to 35 pounds coming in. For the lowdown on how it is done, ask Charlie himself. He boated four 25-pound stripers. Charlie favors trolling two Pet spoons on a divided leader.

Also reported by Charlie was word that sturgeon fishing has picked up with an overage of three or four to the boat. 9 Of Nation's Top 10 Triumph By Associated Press Here's how the nation's Top Ten college football teams fared in Saturday's games: 1. Already beset by injury problems at quarterback, the Tars received another jolt when it was learned that Mike Alberigi, now the backup man to injury- beset A1 Simontachi, suffered a shoulder injury against Solano Friday and will be out for at least one to two weeks. That leaves the Tars with no backup man if Simontachi should not be able to play. Other than that, the hair-raising 16-5 over a tough Solano team Friday was good news all around.
