Meyers said Mrs. Torrence and her husband were being held without bond in the Lexington County Jail. Michael Torrence was being held in the jail in Charleston County. during that questioning that investigators linked the Torrences to the Feb. deaths of the two engineers.

Lollis was found stabbed to death in his motel room in Cayce the morning of Feb. 12. His room had been broken into, and he had been robbed. Bush had disappeared. After the Torrences were' arrested in the Williams case, investigators were led to Bush's body, which had buried in a shallow grave about a mile from the Torrences' old Pine Ridge address.

Bush also had been robbed and beaten, Lexington County in Solicitors in both Charleston and Lexington are considering seeking the death penalty against the family. In South Carolina, the existence of one or more circumstances in a murder allows a prosecutor to seek the death penalty. Those circumstances include kidnapping and armed robbery. Solicitor Donnie Myers said he will wait to hear Solicitor Charles Condon's decision before deciding whether to seek the death penalty in the Lexington County cases. "This has the potential of a death penalty case," he said.

"But I'm not ready to say anything about it. I'm going to let Charleston try them first, since that's where this all originated." Charleston County police picked up the Torrences for questioning in the Williams April 6, about a week after her death. The jury on Monday indicted Donna Webb Torrence, 20, a former waitress at the Carriage House near Fort Jackson; her husband, Thomas John Torrence, 28; and his brother, Michael Ryan Torrence, 25. Each is charged with two counts of murder, two counts of armed robbery, one count of kidnapping, one count of burglary and one count of criminal conspiracy.

Golden Strip Septic Tank Service Inc. in Simpsonville and Palmetto Recycling Inc. in Columbia were among the 99 new sites nationwide added to the list by the federal Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday. The list, which now numbers 951, includes the most severely contaminated hazardous waste sites in the nation. Groundwater is contaminated at both of the new South Carolina sites, although drinking supplies have not been affected, said an official with the state Department of Health and Environmental Control.

The Golden Strip site contained approximately 2 million gallons of waste that was placed in lagoons. The primary contaminants are strong industrial solvents. i mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm i i wmmmmmmmmmmmmmm THE PICKLE PATROL IS WATCHING YOU! They had been at the Carriage House the night they were murdered and apparently had taunted Mrs. Torrence, Lexington County Sheriff James R. Metts said at the time of their arrest. In addition to the Lexington County charges, the Torrence brothers also face murder and kidnapping indictments in Charleston County in the death of Cynthia Williams. Ms.

Williams was a prostitute from Columbia who moved to Charleston just before she was found dead March 29 on a roadside north of Charleston. All three Torrences used to live in Pine Ridge but listed their latest address in Charleston. "They accepted a lot of waste, and when you mix it all together, you don't know what you've got," said John Cresswell, director of DHEC's program for assessing sites. "There was some groundwater contamination, but no private wells that I know of were affected." At Palmetto Recycling, lead is the primary problem because the company tried to reclaim lead from old batteries. The next step for both of the sites will be extensive studies to more precisely determine the scope and composition of the contamination.

After that is completed, a method for removing the waste and cleaning the area will be selected. The final step is the actual cleanuo. Under the $9.5 billion Superfund program, a site cannot be taken off the list until all four steps are completed. The average Super-fund site takes more than four each other late Monday night and early Tuesday morning, the first in New Ellenton and the next two in North Augusta, all in South Carolina. The Wrens, motel was robbed Monday night.

Heath said the car in which the men were riding when they were arrested is tied to the motel robbery. Officer Eddie Turner of the North Augusta Department of Public Safety spotted the suspects after the second robbery in North Augusta and chased them on Interstate 20 toward Georgia, where they were arrested near the South Carolina Welcome Center, Heath said. Garland Coleman and Tyrone Coleman also are wanted on unspecified drug charges in Washington, Heath said. Officials said the Colemans are related, but that their exact relation is unknown. Heath declined to say how much money was taken in the robberies.

According to the warrants, $230 in cash was taken from the New Ellenton store and $60 in cash and two six-packs of beer were taken in one of the North Augusta robberies. Heath said the men likely will face charges in South Carolina before being extradited to Georgia or Washington. Ubtti it Ave. 1 Flat TlSBt ft Hwy. 72 E.

Those arrested Tuesday night are Garland Edward Coleman, 37, and Tyrone Cornelius Coleman, 24, both of Washington DC, and Moses Eddie Hardy, 27, who listed Evans, and Washington, D.C., addresses, according to Aiken County Sheriff Carrol Heath.

Bond was set Tuesday for all three, who have been charged in two convenience store robberies in South Carolina. They are suspects in a third South Carolina convenience store robbery and a motel robbery Monday in Wrens, officials said. A spokesman at the Augusta, Police Department said Hardy was a policeman there from March 1, 1980, to Aug. 26, 1980, when he was fired because of disciplinary problems. Edgefield Police Chief ML.

Ryans also said Hardy worked for his department from March 4, 1981, to July 7, 1981, when he was fired for imubordination after refusing to complete his shift on the July Fourth holiday weekend. The convenience store robberies took place within hours of Of mutual benefit DETROIT (AP) No business can survive without profits. But, says C.J. Silas, chairman and chief executive officer of Phillips Petroleum, "It's always been my feeling that no business can succeed for long if its profits come at the expense of other people or society in general. "Instead," he told the Economic Club of Detroit recently, "I think long-term business success comes only through a mutually beneficial exchange of values -through profits that are generated by providing products and services that have real value."
