Poteet, who has been for some years past connected with the Missonri-Kanias Telephone company. The new company is to be congratulated on this change, as Mr. well known energy and ability will be of great value to them in their business relations with the citkens. The Queen City Telephone company has recently made arrangements to connect with telephone lines running to Warsaw, Windsor, Clinton and other places in the south and sonthwest, also Knobuos- ler and Warrensbarg, and a large number of places in the western part of the state, and will also have a connection with Kansas City by spring. An eastern connection will be made with which will connect this exchange with Boonville, Marshall, Ffgrette and other places, as well as California and intermediate places in the east.

The prospects for the new company are very bright, and the substantial support of the citizens of Sedalia for this enterprise shows that they appreciate a good thing when they see it. Dunn, in Gov. Dockery, commenting upon the result of last election, makes the following statement congratulate the democracy of Missouri upon the signal and overwhelming triumph of last Tuesday. It was a Waterloo, Sedan and Pul- towa all in one for the republicans. The democracy carried the state, according to the careful estimate of Secretary Cook, by a probable plurality in excess of 40,000, the largest plurality, except in one year, recorded for the democracy since 1880. houses of the legislature are democratic and the majority on joint ballot will range between thirty and forty.

The school fund amendment has undoubtedly received the approval of the people by an emphatic majority. most gratifying results have been achieved although Missouri had the most dismal, dreary election day since the election day of i860. Lavin. Mrs. Catherine Lavin, aged 88 years, died of old age at 10 Friday night at the residence of Eli Jenkins, No. 1019 East Third street. Mrs.

Lavin leaves two sons, Thomas and Luke Lavin, who accompanied the remains yesterday to Bloomington, where they will be interred. The funeral services were held at 10130 yesterday forenoon at the St. church, the Rev. Fr. Healy officiating.
