He was in Morris handling a claim the day he died. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict, serving with the Marines. He was a member of the Mackinaw Lions Club and Businessmens' Association. He was vice president and chairman of the operating fund of the Mackinaw Sesquicentennial Association. He was a member of the Casualty Adjustors Association of Peoria, and attended Bradley University.

Alsman died of an apparent heart attack and had a history of heart trouble. However, an autopsy was to have been performed. Deputy Coroner Larry Cooper said Mr. Alsman's van was seen driving onto the median of the highway about 200 yards north of the Interstate 55 overpass north of Normal.
