The Week of July 2- July Bobby Fischer Michael Grant William Miller Whitney Seymour Apologized No criminal charges Died in crash Announces indictments SKYJACK, SKYJACK, SKYJACK-A 21- year-old AWOL soldier Thursday hijacked a Pacific Southwest Airlines jetliner in Oakland, got $455,000 in ransom and then gave up rather than face the possibility of shooting it out with FBI agents. It was the second attempted hijacking of a Pacific Airlines plane in two days. On Wednesday, FBI agents killed two gunmen in San Francisco as the hijackers waited for $800,000 ransom and a flight plan to Siberia. One passenger was killed in that hijack attempt and two others wounded. On the same day, a Buffalo man carrying his 14-monthold daughter commandeered an American Airlines 707 for three hours before surrendering.

FORD ACCUSED OF SMOGGING The Wayne County, Air Pollution Control Division has filed suit against the Ford Motor accusing it of "obnoxious, offensive, damaging and harmful" air pollution of the heavily populated metropolitan Detroit area. The suit charges Ford with "at least 143" violations of the county's pollution control regulations. Ford was "surprised and shocked" and said it had spent $25,000,000 since 1963 on pollution controls.
