EVERYDAY PHRASES Scouts To Attend Roundup Undertake Language Study By VICKI EMERSON Patrol Correspondent The eight senior Scouts, selected by the Marin County Girl Scout Council to represent Marin at the second National Girl Scout Roundup at Colorado Springs, met recently at the home of Virginia Carter, the patrol leader. The purpose of the gathering was to learn short, everyday phrases in Spanish, French. German and Japanese. There will be Girl Scouts and Girl Guides from many foreign countries represented at the Roundup. Miss Lois Little, senior staff advisor, arranged for George Duncan, foreign language instructor at the College of Marin to supervise the learning and pronunciation of the foreign phrases.

He brought three foreign girls who are living in Marin County to say the phrases in their native tongues. The girls were Taeko Mabuchi, from Tokyo, Japaan, who is a graduate of Tokyo College and Renate Miersemann, from Berlin. Germany. Both girls are students at the College of Marin. The third was Janet Zurita Sternberger, from Mexico City, who teaches Spanish at Dominican Convent.

Other training activities have included: two camping trips to test and try out the equipment and make certain everyone is able to carry out such jobs as: Tent pitching, lashing and cooking over a charcoal fire. The first camp- out was held at Sky Oaks, the Marin County Girl Scout Council's Day Camp and the second at Bolinas, where the girls gathered agates, which will be polished and taken to Colorado as swaps, which are token to be exchanged with girls from other sections of the country'. I Plans Completed For Panhelleni Forum Saturday Arrangements have been completed for the Marin County Panhellenic forum to be held at the Ross Elementary 1 School on Saturday, May 2 at 10 a.m. This is the annual meeting held for college bound girls and their mothers to furnish information on rushing rules on various college campuses and sororities in general. Adamina, will speak at the meeting of Tamalpais Centre Club on Friday afternoon and tell of her experiences as the wife of a military attache of the Embassy in Rome for four years. Col.

Adamina. who is now Air Security instructor at San Francisco State College, was also an Air Protocol officer in Washington, D. C. for three years. He is the nephew of Mrs.

Emile Reillac, past president of the club. Col. Adamina, a graduate of College of the Pacific, was the first all-American football player of the college. Mrs. Adamina.

who majored in dramatic art at College of the Pacific, while in Rome translated English movies into Italian. Her son. ho is now 17, took part in the movies. Mrs. Reillac is in charge of the program which starts at 2:45 and will be followed by a tea.

On the tea committee are Mesdames Edith Richardson, Joseph Rossi, George Beine, George Sweeney and Elie Dalmon. Members are invited to bring guests. Mrs. Sebastian Cimino, president, will conduct the 2 business meeting before the program and also the 11 a.m. executive board meeting that day.

The new arrival is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Buck Dufficy (Penelope Thorp) of Palo Alto. The young father is a junior at Stanford University. The baby, born on April 24 at Palto Alto General Hospital, has been named Kimberly Ann.

The little one is the granddaughter of Mrs. Harriet Buck Dufficy of Ross and Capt. Ellis Dufficy, who is stationed by the Air Force in England, and the great-granddaughter Mrs. Harry A. Buck of Ross and Mrs.

Rafael G. Dufficy Sr. of San Rafael. The great-great- grandparents, the late Judge and Mrs. M.

C. Dufficy, were pioneer residents of San Rafael. On the maternal side, grandparents of the little girl are Mr. and Mrs. H.

in the Little Theater at the school, and will feature Dr. Chester Swanson, professor of education at the University of California. Dr. Swanson is a nationally famed expert in the field of secondary education, and for this occasion has chosen the subject: Good Is Our High School This eminent educator will touch on the Conant Report and discuss the reasons why the curriculum offered high school students today differs from that afforded their parents. Several years ago Dr.

Swanson addressed the Marin County Conference on Education. Dr. Swanson, in addition to his university teaching, acts as advisor on curriculum to many Bay Area and Peninsula high schools, and is currently a member of the Ford committee for educational research and development. Rounding out this exciting program will be the presentation of the officers of the P-TA for the year 1959-1960. They are as follows: president, Bryan Youngclaus; first vice president; Mrs.

E. Wilson Lyon, Wellesley College Alumnae Trustee, will report on to alumnae at the Annual Spring Luncheon of the Central California Wellesley Club, Saturday, May 23. This final activity of the spring for the group will be held in the home of Mrs. Robert Sibley, 1777 Leroy avenue, Berkeley, at 12:30 p.m. Bay Area alumnae of Wellesley, as well as those from central California and Nevada, and mothers of students presently attending Wellesley are invited to attend the luncheon.

Missionary Society To Hold Luncheon The Missionary Society of the First Baptist Church of Mill Valley will hold its annual spring luncheon tomorrow at the Mill Valley Golf clubhouse. Fogel received his degree in social work at the University of Minnesota and has served as director of community centers in Omaha, Nebr. and in St. Louis, Mo.
