over near Carnegie Hall acted heroically when he Lotteries i swing the boom away from six co-workers authorities say Thomas O'Brien 45 of Highland Mills in Orange County was trapped in the crane's cab for more than a half-hour Saturday afternoon before rescue workers were able to cut and free him from the wreckage O'Brien who lost his left index finger his right leg below the knee and suffered a fractured left leg was listed in fair condition at Bellevue Hospital Sunday night Deputy Fire Commissioner James Harding called O'Brien's actions "very heroic" saying "He swung the boom away from six workers who were on the (nearby) white tower If he hadn't done it they might have been killed" Harding said O'Brien's quick action also bad avoided damage to adjacent buildings including the Russian Tea Room and the famed Carnegie Hall The crane's boom fell harmlessly on a tangle of construction debris on the site where the foundation is being laid for a tower of luxury condominium apartments a
