the marvin kitman sunday show Testing Ch. 67's visible impact For years, Long Island was one of the largest land masses with 000 inhabitants in a civilized area without its own commercial television station. Social scientists call that condition "cultural deprivation." In November, Ch. 67 in Central Islip went on the air. Yet, many residents report that they still have not been able to get this fine station on their TV Executive Producer sets.

Why? Technical reasons. There appears to be some kind of mystical blockade, perhaps from outer space, a shield or something, preventing the signal from getting through to such far-off-thebeaten-track places as Mineola, Freeport and Hempstead. Perhaps natural obstacles, such as Roslyn Heights, block reception in lower-lying communities. Ch. 67 is widely seen in Westport, Conn.

In some Nassau County communities, the station can be seen by climbing on the roof and installing a special four-bay roof antenna. In others, the loop antenna is effective. On the other hand, there hasn't been a single complaint about reception in Central Islip. Ch. 67 can be seen from any point in downtown Central Islip.

The reception pattern is very confusing. As a favor, I would appreciate it if you would stop reading this column here, try to tune in Ch. 67, and report back the results. If everybody participates in this experiment, we will have the first true picture of Ch. 67's role in the community (TV is a visual medium, and to have maximum impact, it has to be seen).
