Perdew's. Capt, White, of the Beacon i re THE NEWS. Bl" BURNS McCONX. Saturday, May 29 1886 sponsible for the folllowtng out-burst of back allev eloquence, caused we suspect by being black balled In some one of the "damnable listr" "Every secret order, every benevo lent, so-called, combination, is bailed with the utmost satisfaction and grat ificatioii by au intelligent peeple, as a matter ot praise and thanksgiving, We stand on the street corners in the market places, and on the highest seats of the synagogue and thank what is called God. that ve are not as other men and nations.

We then get down and "gantze a mutual in surance company, charity, start benevolent home, instinc ively doing something for the protection of life and the mitigation of disease aud decay The number ot these secret organizations, these law aud order leagues, these benevolent these homes for the friendless, arc, like hos pitals, pest houses, jails aud peuiteuti- aries, but tn evidence or a uisease which blindly and empirically we aie attempting to mitigate, and we look npon these struggling efforts to save ourselves as the sigus of our potency, greatness and increasing glory. What a damnable list they make, these leagues and combinations aud organizations. Theso orders, unions and leagues represent, in fact are the very effects of a wide-spread social disintegration." Ihe telephone service furnished Belle Plaine Is very aggravating. We bavo tried sometimes for half a day to get parties in Wichita aud Welling ton without succeeding, and we arc not the ouly ones who are soaggra vated. In fact toe usual answer when asking either Wichita or Well ington to send for a man is, we have uobody to send, now." When can vou send? "Don't know." We have almost an unlimited amount of pa tience, but that limit is reached when we hear this song repeated so often.

Cal James, the manager here, does all in his power to make the service effl. cient, but be is powerless in this case, Wc repeat that the service as it is is provocative of more profanity and less good tbau if we had uoue. The old-fashioned sizzly soda wa ter is giving way to a lot of new fangled, queer named beverages, brain foods and phosphites. It has become quite the thing to call for something of the sort instead of flav oring. Bromide of potassium, bromide of chloral, bromide aud caffiue, iron and quinine, quiulne and wild cherry aud strychnine in solution, are some of the popular doses.

Thev are supposed to have a good effect upon an exhausted braiu, one of the Symp lons of which is idiocy sufficient to prompt a man to call for such stuff. Ladies ton indulge to a considerable extent, choke off a grimace over the salty mixture aud imagine their system is toned up. Horse stealing seems to be a favor ite ainuseraeut about here. On Sun day night two horses were stolen in the north part of town, one belonging to Edwin Gee aud the other to 11. A. R. Downs believes in assisting merit and rewarding industry. He offered man who said he was out of work and couldn't get any, a job of wheeling a wheel barrow Wednesday. Drl thought this was a good joke, but the fellow took him up and the joke was apparently on Downs.

The fellow kept it up all day, making regular trips up and down the street perfectly oblivious of the smiling countenances of the spectators. He earned bis money and, we suppose, got it. From an Indian Territory special it is learned that a general expulsion of intruders or "boomers' upon the Cherokee strip has been begun.
