years service and retired in 1969 with three star rank of lieutenant general Lincoln started in 1933 as a2nd lieutenant Company Commander of Company 2nd Engineer Fort Logan' Colorado His last command was Fourth US Army as a lieutenant general at Fort Sam Houston Texas: Lincoln served in four Pentagon assignments at various times during the 1942-67 period Other assignments included Admiral Lord Louis staff in India and Ceylon 1943-44 Commission of the US Soviet Joint Commission in Korea 1946-47 and Deputy Chief of Staff of Joint Task Force Seven which con- ducted the 1948 atomic bomb tests at Eniwetok' Atoll in the Pacific His engineer assignments included Engineer US Army Pacific 1948 and Engineer Fourth US Army at Fort Sam Houston Texas in 1933-36 He commanded Fort Belvoir and the Engineer School in 1962-63 In the construction field he commanded two districts Denver and Kansas City 1949-53 He was later Division Engineer in command of five districts doing construction in the Middle East extending from Morocco to Pakistan and the Black Sea to "fethiopia In the construction field he had to satisfy many officials and other individuals including generals mayors governors and congressman the former on flood threatened land and for a time one' President of the United States Harry Truman who lived in nearby Independence Missouri General Lincoln is survived by his widow Mary Clark Lincoln They were married at his first station Fort Logan Colorado in 1934 where she was living while her father was Post Surgeon and hospital commander For decades she was a star in the difficult role of an army wife and mother with the frequent moves and quick demands to help others There are Lieutenant General (Retired) Lawrence Lincoln US Army 'age 91 died June 27 2000 at his home Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery Arlington Virginian with full military honors Lawrence bom January 2 1909 was the second of five children and raised on what is now known at the Lincoln Centennial Farm south of Harbor Beach In 1926 he graduated from Harbor Beach High School where his mother Esther Lincoln was one of his teachers and from where his brother George A sisters Joyce and Lura and younger brother Janies also graduated Lawrence later attended Ferris Institute in Big Rapids Western State College in: Kalamazoo and George Washington University in Washington DC He entered the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1929 having been appointed by LC Crampton to fill the vacan- cy made by his brother a George who had just graduated At West Point Lawrence engaged in three varsity sports football lacrosse and wrestling He was a cadet captain and member of the Cadet Honpr Committee On graduation Friday Saturday July 28 29 Join in on the fun and register Pierce Florida Colonel Ret James Lincoln of Annandale Virginia and Clark of Romeo Michigan: There are eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren General Lincoln kept close contact with his two brothers and two sisters throughout his service and retirement The retention of the Lincoln Centennial Farm by his brother Jim enhanced the family rela-' tionship He often worked quite effectively with his younger brother on matters of importance to the Thumb region He died still a subscriber to the Harbor Beach Times and often read other papers from the region Whether in the halls of the Pentagon the venue of tales in the East or on the lower Missouri River as host to a friendly old timer who had been President of the United States he never forgot his roots' where he first put his This allowed us to have two vehicles here at all times which is important when one is gone on a transfer out of the Eastern Huron Ambulance Service now has a 1998 and a 2000 ambulance-in their garage thus assuring that modern and up to date equipment is ready and available for duty Thirty-one volunteers make sure that the ambulance is staffed on a 24 hour 7 days a week schedule Caring for the community is the theme of this EMS week he Eastern Huron Ambulance Service is at your service caring for the community For emergency service dial 911 the business office number is 479-3680 and is open Monday to 1 Friday from 9-3 pm unless they are out on an ambulance -call The Eastern Huron Ambulance Service of Harbor Beach recently received a new year 2000 Ford ambulance The $82000 vehicle was produced by Marque Inc of Goshen IN with an aluminum modular box that came complete with cabinetry and storage areas for the necessary equipment This vehicle took 4 months to construct because of its customizing and requirement the Service had for its storage areas Since the delivery took place the staff of the Eastern Huron Ambulance Service has been stocking and getting the placement of the radios hardware and other necessary equipment for the State inspection Outside decals and special bumper were recently installed ais well The inside equipment and supplies of the ambulance amount to about $40000 you can see this vehicle is an expensive piece of rolling equipment to serve the area for those who are in need of emergency stated Warren Ramsey manager of the Service budget money for
