Wells, of Boyce, was in Colfax on Thursday. Mrs. C. E. P.

Calhoun is putting up a new barn and stable. Now is a good time for you to pay your newspaper subscription. See Superintendent's notice of examination of teachers Oct. 7th. Mr.

Scott Yeager, of Pineville, visited relatives in Colfax last Tuesday. Mr, Ed. Gatlin buried an' infant child last Monday, that only lived to be a few hours old. Mr. W.

B. Garrett returned home last Sunday, much improved by his week in the country. The author of the article on "Expansion" having sent in his name, it will be published as soon as we have room. Mr. Chas.

D. Lacroix, who had been home for about a week, left for the Urania mills last Saturday, where he is employed. Mr. Matt Dunn returned from his trip to Hot Springs on last Tuesday, with his rheumatism greatly relieved and health generally bettered. Mrs.

R. H. Williamson, who rallied two weeks ago, and was.gstting better after her long illness, has grown much worse this week, and little hope or her rrcovery is now entertained. The Firensi colored public school, taught by H. C.

Robinson, gave a very creditable concert and exhibition last Saturday night, which we are told spoke well of the care and pains of the teacher. The steamer Scovell passed down on Wednesday, having been two I weLks or more working her way down the river. She refused to take any i cotton at Colfax on account of the low stage of water. Rev. J.

M. Beard and Rev. Dr. Carradine will hold a meeting in Monroe, from Oct. 18th to 2gd, to which thegeneral public is cordially invited.
