I i i Pmeestf Umti Seises keseiB By Donald Drake Hempstead Charles (Chuck) Browne Long top labor leader and all other officers of his revolt-ridden restaurant local were kicked out of office yesterday by the international union Control of Local 164 Hotel and Restaurant Employees and Bartenders Union (AFCIO) was taken over by international representative Richard Uhrich pending a new general election He said: got here is a union gotten a little sick and the doctor' has been called in the Browne leaves the presidency of Local 164 in much the same way he assumed the leadership in 195 when the international appointed him a special representative to reorganize the local (just as Uhrich is doingnow) The takeover follows a revolt in the 3200-member local by a rebel faction headed by Jay Sheridan The revolt has resulted -in a civil suit against the local leadership and investigations by the FBI and the United States office Sheridan called ouster complete victory for the rank and file that fought to get Browne Browne whose $15000-a-year salary has been stopped said die trusteeship was required because of harassment the local He referred to protest meetings and court suits against his leadership He said he would accept renomination as local president when general elections are called will let the membership decide if I should he said Browne is also the unsalaried president of the Long Island Federation of Labor It was not known if he would lose this job as a result of the takeover A spokesman for the federation said the group has had no official word of the takeover and he did not know what action if any would be taken against Browne Uhrich said he would appoint assistants to help reorganize the local and restore the faith in their nnion He said that neither Browne nor Sheridan would hold positions in the new leadership Uhrich said that general elections would be held after he is satisfied with conditions in the local Sheridan said the international had promised him that the trusteeship would last 90 days at the most and that general elections would then Ire held He said the international also promised that three of five business agents ousted recently would be reinstated under the caretaker government The five are James Ward of Bcthpage William Corbin of Hicksville Anthony Amodeo of Bright-waters William Sherwood of Hempstead and Mattie Pietrzak of Wantali a red suit and white whiskers yesterday Moses who recently had said that those who favored reducing World's Fair prices for school children were "assorted Santa announced a compromise agreement that will admit some school children to the fair at 25 cents a head The new largesse will extend to all of Nassau and part of Suffolk Under the agreement which was worked out Moses and Mayor Wagner over the week end cut rate will apply in an area within a 50-mile radius of the fair site in Queens The plan applies only to children attending the fair as members of school groups accompanied by teachers During school days and school hours groups of 25 or more students will be admitted to the fair for 25 cents a child during May June September and October 1964 The accompanying teachers will be Commissioner of Local Government John Burns of Sea Cliff will seek the Republican nomination for Nassau County Executive in 1964 it was learned today Burns a three-term supervisor in the Town of Oyster Bay and former vice chairman of the county board has been quietly taking soundings among Nassau Republicans to determine the amount of political and civic support he could attract especially if he runs into an intra-party fight over the nomination Thus far it was learned soundings indicate that he would have the- initial backing of his home Oyster Bay Republican Committee and its chairman Bruce Pearsall and of some Republicans in other areas of the county Questioned about reports of his candidacy Bums acknowledged that of people have been talking to me about being a candidate I am He added not former Nassau COP Chairman Leonard Hall and former Nassau County Executive A Holly Patterson and Republicans in Hempstead town who arc friendly to them The time schedule for a candidate choice however remains up in the air because of the unresolved legislative question of whether candidates will be chosen in a spring or fall primary in 1964 Assembly Speaker Joseph Carlino the Nassau COP leader who once had been mentioned as a possible Nickerson opponent himself was noncommittal about reports of activity Other Nassau Republicans mentioned for the race include State Sen Edward Spcno of East Meadow who firmly announced last spring that he was not interested and District Attorney Cahn The Nassau COP is expected to weigh the choice of a county executive candidate with considerable care in the light of their 1959 defeat when COP candidate Robert Dill lost to Nickerson discouraged anyone from speaking to me about it" But he said he was not pushing the matter because he was happy with his $25200-a-year job in Albany Bums said that in his talks he found that support is substantial and it flows across tlie count'" He declined to name his chief supporters' Askod how
