"'$> -.<, , ..Fresh Italian Prune Pie, Idaho - t .. 4 "cup'S HafP8Jf¥e1?cled Idaho- J i teaspoon cinnamon" Fresh Italian Prunes (about) U teaspoon nutmeg or mact 1 cup granulated sugar 2 tablespoons butter 3 tablespoons flour 2 tablespoons lemon juice J 4 teaspoon salt Pastry for double crust pie Cut prune halves once crosswise. Fill pastry-lined 9-inch .pie dish with fresh prunes. Mix together dry ingredients. Sprinkle over fruit. Add lemon juice. Dot with butter. Cover with top crust. Seal edges. Or make high fluted edge and trim top with leaf-shaped pastry cutouts. Rake in 42.j degree F. (hot) oven 33 to 40 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream, ice cream, or hard sauce. Makes 6 to 8 servings. Spices and lemon juice may be omitted, with 2 tablespoons orange juice and 2 teaspoons grated rind used instead. Iowa 6 cups cukes sliced thick 6 cups onions sliced thick 6 cups chopped green tomatoes 6 cups green string beans cut 6 cups chopped carrots 4 cups chopped celery 3 large sweet peppers chopped 7 tablespoons tumeric 10 tablespoons mustard seed 5 tablespoons celery seed 8 cups sugar 10 cups vinegar Soak cukes, peppers, onions and tomatoes in salt wat«r for several hours. '2 cup salt to 2 quarts water. Drain well. Cook the carrots, and string beans in boiling water until tender, drain well. Mix soaked and cooked vegetables with remaining ingredients and boil 10 minutes. Place in sterilized jars and seal. And such was ihe case, with the board of judges again having a trying time studying, and sifting all the various recipes . . . with the final winner coming up as VIVIAN DUTTON, of Hurt. Her unusual pickle recipe is printed in full at left. With next week's classification bei^g "Salad Dressings", the judges in the Al- oona Merchanlr-Upper Des Moines Recipe Contest are expecting an outstanding group of recipes. We know there are many men who are proficient salad dressing makers, and perhaps a recipe or two might be received from the male of the species.
